You're right; the 600 series does have more CUDA cores, but apparently they're not the same type of CUDA cores.

I found this other thread that may be a little clearer.

Firstly, the CUDA cores in the 6xx range aren't the same as the CUDA cores in the 5xx range, also the 'Compute' ability of the GPU is a little bit crippled in Kepler. It is better to get a GTX 580 than a 680 for 3D rendering.

Lets wait for the GPU gurus to chime in on this, as I'd like to learn a bit more about this myself. biggrin.gif

This is correct.

If you want compute, dont touch 6xx.

Nvidia changed the memory allocation on the cores so 2 cores share 48bits rather than fermi which dedicates that memory to each core.
That, and a few other things.
I read about it on Stack Overflow while doing research and did some more reading on it.

Basically 2 Kepler cores are equal to about .8 Fermi cores, and end up being slower in rendering times usually.

Ill see if I can find a thread I was in about sony Vegas where a 580 beat the snot out of a 670 for that reason.

I would like to say that the U2312HM is definetly a safe buy, the other one I don't know much about because it's pretty new.

But I've read up on the U2312HM, and a lot of people have it. It is supposed to be very good for it's price. I am currently considering to get two of them myself. I have seen a setup with two of these at a friends house and they are really nice smile.gif

Here is a huge thread with people who has the U2312HM, many share their experiences, settings ect there.

Oh and here is a review:

I also have a better explanation of how 6xx handles memory compared to fermi in that thread.

Just my 2 cents, I use Lightroom as well and my 6850 does the job just fine, and since no gaming will go on I don't see why spending over 160.00 for a GPU is necessary.

So with Fermi in mind, this one will overkill the job and serve her purposes well I'd assume... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127594

Edit: Upon reading reviews, never mind on that one. I like twin frozr but... this one is clearly a better choice http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814162074

I'll be doing a build log with this one too if you're interested, I'll probably have it posted in a week or so. Here's the parts coming:

Good call on the GPU! The 560Ti gives her everything she needs and more!
Galaxy makes good stuff(very underrated imo), and they have reps dedicated to [H]ardforum if you ever have any issues and cant get the help you need from the normal channels.

EDIT:
CRAAAAAP.
Ive been on here too long to Necro a thread like this. mad.gif
