Im looking at getting two Windows7 Laptops "WiFi". And using my personal system "tower, wired' to share the hdd "a 1TB Black, non-OS" with the two laptops, for backing up the tower and both laptops.

Without using UPnP.
Also looking at getting a, TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND (link)

Im a network Noob, well "Kind of Noob"!

This is just a stop gap for now, and hopfully in fall, be able to bulid my first server, prob FreeNas, along side my first PFsense_Box......

Sounds like you really just want a shared drive. In Windows 7 this is extremely easy to accomplish. Typically if your in a home setting you'll assign all your personal computers to a "Workgroup" and also a Home group. The Home group makes it relatively easier to share printers, drives, etc etc etc.

So on your desktop you would right click the 1 Tb drive and select properties, find the sharing option and select advanced sharing. Then select share this folder....pretty easy. Then you will just map your two laptops to the shared drive on your host machine (the desktop).

If your really trying to get into a home media center or a main file server you can always download Ubuntu server and set up SAMBA. This website here has an excellent guide to setting up a file server on Ubuntu. http://www.linuxhomeserverguide.com/
