Nonsense, there need to be a quadruple slot GPU for even greater OCing!

As far as I know, you can run it as long as the slot can support the resolution. so 3x 1080p monitors, probably yes. But if the resolution is over 1200p, no. As I previously harped about, the one DVI slot is not capable of higher resolutions.

Thanks thumb.gif

If that's the case, I won't rule this out for my upgrade. I dirched 7970s since dp/dp/dvi causes screen tearing on the dvi monitor (60hz 1080 ips). I would still like to get an official statement from any of the makers.

I thought AMD didn't officially release a 7990?

Its basically a 7970x2. Think Asus Mars and Ares. They're custom designed dual gpu core cards.

Edit: and yes, you're correct. Officially, Amd never launched a 7990. So that left the name open I guess. And these cards picked it up smile.gif

Might want to check on that and confirm with the manufacturer, I wasn't aware of screen tearing issues, as I went NVidia this generation because of CF support issues.

AMD didn't want to cannibalize its more profitable Firepro GPUs. Previously with the 6990s and 5990s, they were frequently purchased over the more expensive Firepro versions for computing purposes.

Yeah, I'm weary to go back to amd unless it supports three screens via all dp (to dvi) or all dvi/hdmi. I'm using Nvidia now and there's still the advantage of running higher then 1200 without an expensive adapter.

Corrected wink.gif. Good know this is another reason why they kept from the 7990. I was expecting one tbh especially after the mighty 6990.
