[news.com.au] Aus Federal Government forces Apple, Microsoft and Adobe to testify in pricing... - Page 13

Just an article about the above mentioned Adobe price cuts.
It also mentions about Adobe's new major office they're opening in Aust. this year to manage over the Asia Pacific region. For those saying the price hike was justified due to how expensive it is to operate in Aust. then why would they choose to place it here rather than an Asian country which is known for the low costs for things like this. I'm willing to accept I'm wrong but I find that so far the evidence is going to show that it was simply price gouging, sure some of the increases were justified but nowhere near where the prices were at.

Price cut for CS6 Master Collection isn't even that large in terms of the original price, it's only a ~$350 reduction. Cost is still WAY higher than the US version.

It is ridiculous. For the difference between the US and AU prices of CS6MC, you could build a beastly rig, which is pretty sad, if you ask me.

Even with whatever taxes may apply in Australia, there is no way a digitally distributed piece of software should have such a massive price difference.

Australians are definitely getting screwed.

Adobe doesn't collect the Goods and Services Tax (our equivalent of sales tax) on their download versions of products (they only do when you ask for them to ship a physical disk and box), so it's not about tax.

As of current conversion rates ignoring taxes (IDK Aus tax code) AUD/USD = 1.0339 so It should be 2687.11AUD for CS6MC. I think I see an arbitrage opportunity. I'll sell it to you guys in Aus for 2850 (have to cover tax and CC rates). Although...Adobe must be confident that arbitrage can't take place if they're charging over 100AUD more.

Reading this thread just made me mad. Im just about to build a new rig and to think of all the unnecessary money im going to have to spend to get decent parts just because i live in Aus always frustrates me. I doubt well ever see them on par with US but it would be nice to get close for once.. considering our dollar is stronger.

Digital distribution costs the same, If i say buy a copy of DMC: Devil may cry in america, It is say 40 bucks, a digital download of 6.8GB That 6.8GB does not change anywhere, Sure i'd be happy if it were 45 bucks in australia to compensate for the exchange rate, But it's not, It is 65 bucks.

6.8gb is still 6.8GB no matter where i am, japan, europe, America, Canada, Sweden, It's still 6.8GB it costs NO EXTRA to Send it digitally.
