Because you can bet your bottom dollar that when Titan lands here, you're looking at $1.5k+

Agree with this part - water, electricity, snickers bars(-personal gripe), beer, restaurants, electrical goods, cars etc. all cost more in Oz, but it's the price you pay for having such a strong economy and being such a small isolated market. However, if Aussies went anywhere else in the world and realised how high wages are in Australia compared to everywhere else then they might not moan so much! The minimum wage is 2.5 times higher than in the UK and most jobs pay at least double so its all relative and I'm not going to feel sorry for you guys as you can still easily buy photoshop on a weeks wages. I reserve my sympathy for those at the other end of the scale in developing countries who have to save up for 10 years to buy a computer and Photoshop!

A few weeks ago, the Australian government raised minimum wage to A$15 an hour (about $15.30 USD). It's more than double the federal minimum wage in the United States.

I agree with Knuckhead.
Here in Bermuda we don't have absurd pricing on most software products be it physical or digital, but most other things such as clothes, appliances, furniture, electronics, cars, food and machinery will readily be marked up heavily by retailers. High prices and a severe lack of variety available locally, the retail sector for years has lost millions of dollars as a large portion of the population will simply rather import whatever they want themselves instead of paying extravagant prices. With the US and Canada being a stone throw away, many simply go abroad on shopping trips, spend a few hundred dollars and ship the items back. Personally, I import most of my big ticket hardware items myself or have someone going away bring them back with them or ship it back. August 2011 when I built my rig, the 2600k retailed here for $530, a reference 3gb 580 went for $900; I did buy locally and most of the parts had to be specially ordered and came in close to $3k for a rig that would go for $1200 in the US.

To combat this large cash flow going out of the local economy, for the most part retailers have cried foul forcing the government to step in last year and increase duty rates for personal imports and giving tax breaks for retailers. The consumer's overall response to that was, less spending period; personal imports are down but so are commercial imports and as such, a prices in some places have started to fall.

The Australian government won't be able to do anything against international tech giants. If it comes down to it they'll simply threaten to deny Australia their products, and then GG. Honestly, with their army of lawyers, they'll probably tell Australia to smoke their pole and I seriously doubt prices will be affected at all. Any ways, this is a disgrace to capitalism-- company pricing should not be decided by any government. Product is too expensive? Don't buy it, or torrent it. I realize its not fair to the Australian consumer, but business is business!

There is a reason these corporations buy their way into the government, because in the end the governments hold the power. You better believe they will all show up.

You're absolutely right they'll show up --with over 9000 lawyers and a 150 page non double spaced document describing all the reasons why they charge what they do, and how the Australian government has no right to change anything price related.
