There must be a reason for this, and if you read the title it just states that the sim and 'game loop' are on one thread. Doesn't mean they're not using more threads for other stuff. Sounds like the people/cars/waterflow/etc. is dedicated to one CPU core, while the others handle other stuff. Could be wrong, but that's what it sounds like to me.

Other games published by EA uses 1 core also, I believe Dead Space 2 and 3 use 1 core, not sure about the original though tongue.gif
EDIT: Okay apparently it's just certain aspects as I read before but didn't take in.

You don't even know what you're talking about but you're willing to let that get in the way of what could be an awesome game. As for not having the latest and greatest hardware, I've said before, the area limit is mostly there to keep low end machines happy. Consistent experience across systems is what they're after.

I see logic is lost on you and that you don't care that developers utilize the hardware we have. Look at how dated my rig is and I can still run any game on the market pretty well at 1080p. It isn't that they aren't making multi-threaded games. The whole point is that they aren't using the hardware we have. The fact that I can still run every game on this dated machine is kind of sad. They don't give us a reason to upgrade to new hardware other than just higher fps, many games that is all you really get with console ports becoming the norm lately. I would love to get the Geforce Titan, but what is the need when a 680/670 will get the job done.

I see logic is lost on you, too, because clearly if they don't need all that power and are not targeting stuff like 680s something is very wrong!

You're picking the wrong fight here. Yes, it would be awesome if devs could use up all the power in our machines, but has SimCity ever been known to do that? Why is that suddenly an issue? What if they want the game to run on low end hardware too? I didn't want to bring this up, but don't you think consoles are holding back PC hardware more than this, because a lot of games today are made for them?

Remember, you have to look at the target market here. It's a casual game made for people to kill time on. The average joe running some old 2007 hardware needs to be able to play their game. They don't care that you have a a GTX990 with an i19 at 26GHz with 24 cores when you're the minority in their eyes (though the devs do probably wonder how it runs anyway). You can make a lot more money by making sure the game runs on low end hardware, and remember that game making is a business.

Even then it really isn't using 100% of the Graphics Card/CPU/RAM.

To do that you'd have to fully utilize all the CUDA cores for PhsyX, maximum VRAM usage for textures, all the plausible threads, all the plausible GPU cores. While not going over the limit (especially VRAM and CUDA cores), which would be impossible because of the major difference in the amount of such things and how fast they are.
It would be a programming nightmare.

Congrats, you've just made the 100th false assumption of this thread!

I've played SimCity 4 and 2000 plenty(installed and put 40+ hours into SC4 a few weeks ago) , but you'd be right if your assumption had been that I don't intend to buy the new one at launch. It's not because of DRM, this absurd "single"-threaded debate, EA hate, or anything of the sort. I just don't feel that I'd put enough time into it in the next few months to warrant not waiting until it goes on sale.

With the way they've offloaded processes to the cloud, it is 110% possible that the single thread is lightweight enough where it won't be the bottleneck, instead having graphics or internet connection being the bottleneck hit first. Assuming that this one statement means that performance will be bad is just as shortsighted as AMD's Moar Cores strategy was.

I've played SimCity 4 and 2000 plenty(installed and put 40+ hours into SC4 a few weeks ago) , but you'd be right if your assumption had been that I don't intend to buy the new one at launch. I just don't feel that I'd put enough time into it in the next few months to warrant not waiting until it goes on sale.
