Oh, give me a break don't be so literal. Remove "max out" and insert "utilize most resources". A piece of software can't use everything. If it was using everything and then something else came a long it would bog the system down. Load up a game while you are running a stress test.

No one expects a game to fully utilize a system. They just would like to see it use it well...use all the threads at about 50%, at least 75% out of the GPU, and utilized more than 4GB of memory.

However, just because a game would do this does not make it good. If a game can do complex operations efficiently and only use one thread...well, I'd call that good programing. As long as the performance is there, what does it matter? The cloud aspect of this game is likely going to prevent any modding so what you get out of the box with it is all it will be and if one thread can handle it then goodie good.

I haven't read this article yet, but I do know they have said it will use cloud computing for the sims...so not much of the game is going be actually "ran" on the local CPU anyway. One thread makes complete sense.

Well gee, if they actually programed the game CORRECTLY to take advantage of modern quad core CPU's on local users machines, then the whole cloud hype crap woudln't be needed.

But NOoooooo......it was a just another chance for EA to continue to have ownership and control of peoples software that they purchased and limit their choices and controls, which angers me even more then anything. I buy these kinds of games for my *downtime* while travelling or in the hotel room or some other type area. Its a timekiller, like Civilization was for me. Making these games
require always-on internet connection really forces me not to purchase it.
Typically I dont play these kinds of games at home- I'd opt for BF3 or something more intense. The long term strategy and buildup games MUST be usable off-line or they are dead to many of us...

You'd think it would make more sense to offload workload into a core that can respond in less than 1ns, instead, they rather flick the information across the continent to their data centers for "computing".

Talk about a waste of perfectly good resources.

The logic in question is saying since bad performance can come from single-threaded implementation and therefore single-threaded implementation means bad performance. That's a logical fallacy. If the program is written light enough where going multi-threaded doesn't have benefits, it's an extremely well written program. Yes, you can write a program heavy enough that the same thing happens, but there's a difference. Assuming one while ignoring the other is just fitting the evidence to what you want to believe.
