No. It's a casual game made for people that want to kill time and feel like they've accomplished something when they've built a nice big city. Performance is NOT the number 1 concern here, the experience is (or should be). Leave the benchmarkers to stuff like crysis and the world carries on spinning.

Cant have fun or a poor performing game, It was performing decent for me on my Phenom II, but not everyone going to have the latest and "greatest" hardware, not that I disagree with your statement.

Hopefully It runs well on those systems, single threading is such a let down, someone said that being single threaded and using 1 core is different so I'm a bit baffled atm.
if it utilizes 1 core then -_-
Even more reasons to not buy the game.
Other games published by EA uses 1 core also, I believe Dead Space 2 and 3 use 1 core, not sure about the original though tongue.gif
EDIT: Okay apparently it's just certain aspects as I read before but didn't take in.

Because it's not single threaded thumb.gif

Assumptions assumptions, oh the lovely assumptions. Want to know something bizzare? If you give Battlefield 3 16 cores, you'd never know the difference from ~6 cores. It is fully possible that the way they've offloaded to the cloud servers has it unnecessary for the game to need more than a tri core at 3Ghz. If the heaviest thread bottlenecks below 3Ghz, splitting it up won't affect any computers other than high-end laptops that are running 4-8 cores below 2.5 GHz. Who knows, the heaviest thread might only need 2Ghz.

Multithreading for the sake of multithreading is just a waste of money. There's two possibilities that the "ZOMG it's not multi-threaded!" crowd is ignoring: that the game's core logic might be light enough that it wouldn't benefit from it or that the game's core logic is complicated enough that trying to split and synchronize it would end very badly. Believe it or not, there are still some positives to not going multithreaded.

Like I've said before, multithreading WILL NOT solve that. How do you think they did it in previous versions, back when single cores were the norm? I'll bet it's an artificial limit set by the developers to keep the game experience uniform across different systems. It could also have been done, like I said before, so they could easily port it over to mobile devices if they so wished. And, like I've said before, multithreading increases costs and time and complexity, meaning less polish and possibly (more likely actually) introducing more bugs.

As for having a "main" thread that is heavier than the other threads and can cause the game to be CPU bound, it's far from crippling with the sims logic split off to the cloud servers. And as far as either of us know, it's fully possible that they once had it spread through multiple threads and it either didn't help, introduced crippling bugs, or actually hurt performance.

Stirring up outrage based on a half of a 140 character tweet from two weeks ago is grasping at straws.

From your avatar and attitude, I can take a safe assumption you've never even played a Simcity at all

But, but, but....

They said it had to be online and in the cloud because a normal PC couldn't handle it.

Though as much bologna as that is...it could be why the local process for the game is single threaded.

Well, i dident monitor CPU utilization but the FPS was limited to 24 or 30 i think.

CPU power (ie multithreading) means nothing if it's being frame capped. You won't notice the difference.

Honsetly, my 670 FTW was getting maxed out when my population hit the 20k mark and not running AA either

It runs fine as it was programmed in beta. Wish the city size was bigger. But the CPU utilization in this game is nothing different than any other game. I don't see you running your mouth about that. But if there was no way for you to find out how many thereads this game used, you would care because the game runs fine. So all the people complaining about something that was poorly reported in the OP should get off your high horse and do something about it. Dont buy the game. Write them a letter explaining how multithreading would improve the game. Send them programming expamples since you've figured this out.

Oh and in regards to pushing the envolope of hardware in games. I dont see Simcity as the kind of genre to do that. EA certainly isn't marketing this game to people that would be looking to by top end hardware to run this game. I think this is a casual gamer kind of game, so you program it to run on most any machine in hopes of more sales. Plus what direct competition does Simcity have?

I see logic is lost on you and that you don't care that developers utilize the hardware we have. Look at how dated my rig is and I can still run any game on the market pretty well at 1080p. It isn't that they aren't making multi-threaded games. The whole point is that they aren't using the hardware we have. The fact that I can still run every game on this dated machine is kind of sad. They don't give us a reason to upgrade to new hardware other than just higher fps, many games that is all you really get with console ports becoming the norm lately. I would love to get the Geforce Titan, but what is the need when a 680/670 will get the job done.

i hope the "Meticulating Splines" (random map generation) part is faster, then. If the meticulating part takes as long to process as the sims 2 was to load, i would be very unhappy.

i missed out on the beta (if it happened already), so i am sort of dependent on the other OC users thoughts, as well as the news posted here.
