Christmas build for brother in law - Page 3

i guess that works too. just a suggestion, you might want to spend alittle more to get 2x 256 modules of ram for dual channel instead of 1x 512 in single.

Actually, ill make another one really quick for you, to see what if i cna do better..

go with your setup youve got with 2x 256 instead of 1x 512, i cant really do better than what you did because i didnt know you did not have a copy of windows... or if you can do, just install windows with your key.

Which Total War is it? there are multiple games in the total War series and it makes a HUGE difference which game it is as to which system can play it.

rome total war

it doesn't make sense to go dual channel on a socket 754 does it? i edited my post and figured it in because it would only cost $5 more.

CD-ROM: ASUS Black E-IDE/ATAPI CD-ROM Drive $11.99
Case/PSU: Antec NSK 4400 Black/Silver 0.8mm cold-rolled steel construction ATX $69.99
Keyboard/Mouse/Speakers: Rosewill KMS-100 Black PS/2 Wired $9.99

That works too, a combination between me and chozart.

TOTAL: 430 For a complete setup.
Just get this and get Windows XP home edition....
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16832116169

You will go overbudget by about $25, but its worth it...

it matters dual channel vs no dual channel, makes a big performance boost. I tried using 2x 512 vs my 1gb stick and it makes a HUGE diffrence... and this was on my socket a build i had 2 years ago.

OR.. Get this..
Rosewill R6422 SL ATX Mid Tower Computer Case+350W Power Supply - Retail $22.99 + 11 Shipping. instead of the case Chozart had suggested, get rid of the power supply, and get this.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817174023

Hypro 500W

And your set. $43 Shipped.

New total: 528 .. argh, still overbudget, but you get a very very good and stable power supply.
