EDIT:

10 points of WIN to the person who gets that reference without using google fu.

Let me just point you to my post on page 1.

If this is really true, I would have serious doubts about the future of the company. There's not much cheesier than a guy with a screen on his watch. Luxury item, this is not.

I don't care who released it first, it's a terrible idea.

It's an old McDonald's commercial for the Big Mac. From the late 80's I believe.

The problem with all of these IMHO is there is 1: no cross platform compatibility and 2: Do they need to be upgraded when I upgrade my phone? I bought my Seiko automatic dive watch over 10 years ago. It's been deployed 3 times been in the field countless times, It's been diving on three continents and in for repair once for $329. There's a reason they still make this watch and it's the same price.

Two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun.

McDonald's Big Mac indeed.

I'm not sure an iWatch is going to work. Nobody I know wears a watch. They all use their smartphones which also happen to tell time. To be honest I'd rather have Google glasses.

Exactly. I own about 15 watches, and 14 of them are mechanical, everything from Swiss to Seiko to Vostoks from Russia. Apple can make their "iWatch" if they want to. I'm not interested.

I'm not sure whether I'd ever consider buying a "smart watch," but I'd probably get one before I'd spend any sizable chunk of money on a regular watch. I understand that there is a market for them and some people find enjoyment in having a nice watch, but personally I have no desire to pay for a device which tells time as its only function.

I don't get the point of a smart watch nowadays. People either wear a watch because they like wearing one or they just use their phones. I really can't see it selling too well unless it really is ground-breaking...

I don't either. It would essentially be a smartphone strapped to your wrist. Anything it could do, a phone could do, plus a watch if you need the wristwatch functionality.

Also, they won't have the status symbol going for them here. It worked for their phones because there was nothing strongly established there at the time. Good luck with watches.

The issue being that it would never be as useful as a fully fledged smartphone, so it's not like it would be a new device to replace that, so why bother to carry about another device to compliment an already expensive more useful device?

Yeah, I can imagine that conversation...

"I just got a new watch!"

"Ah, nice. Breitling, Omega, Tag?"

"Apple."

Waiting for the next news thread "Apple granted patent for watch." On Topic. There have been BT/Watch phones around for a while now and for me at least there not really worth it most of the time i can just pull out my phone and having one more device on my person just does not make sense.
