The only 4+1 AM3 motherboard that can handle extreme overclocking is
Biostar TA990FXE that I know of. But the ASRock 970FX Extreme3 does
throttle to protect your system. Overclocking shouldn't be cookie cutter
style. Take you time and overclock at 100MHz increments from stock.
See what you end up with.
The ASRock 970FX Extreme3 is a very nice budget motherboard. Good
digital VRM design. Plus you got a 990X chipset (8X/8X Crossfire) if I remember
correctly. just keep an eye on your vrm temp. add a fan on top or if your case good
air flow (V3 is same same my Dokker - Xigmatek XLF XLF-F1703 170mm is the
only case fan that fits over the heatsink but will cool your VRMs on your motherboard).
The only modern ASRock motherboard I have used is the 970DE3-U3S3 and it
isn't close to the 970FX Extreme3. But it was 100% with and unlocked x4 B50 at stock
3.10GHz (CPU-z says 140W unlocked).
Good Luck with your overclocking.
