Here is an $1,000 Core 2 Duo rig...

MoBo: GIGABYTE GA-965P-S3 Socket T (LGA 775) Intel P965 Express $115.99
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 Conroe 1.86GHz LGA 775 $181.49
RAM: BUFFALO Firestix 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) $244.99
Video: SAPPHIRE 100189L Radeon X1900GT 256MB GDDR3 $159.99
HDD: Western Digital Caviar RE WD1600YS 160GB 16MB Cache $64.99
DVD: LITE-ON 18X DVD±R Burner Black IDE $29.99
CPU Cooler: ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro $29.99
Case: COOLER MASTER Centurion 5 CAC-T05-UW Black Aluminum Bezel $44.99
PSU: SILVERSTONE SST-ST50EF ATX12V 500W $87.50

Total: $959.92

Savings:
- 1GB RAM instead of 2GB (about $120 cheaper)
- 7600GT (about $50 cheaper)
- PCU (that Hipro would save about $50)
- No after market cooling (saves $30)

Edit: Eddie - same ideas!

The rig in my specs actually changed the way wow looked completely. And I do notice slow downs when using AA even with my slightly overclocked graphic card.. The improvement I notice from my old rig to my new one is a night and day difference. It's like I'm playing WoWII or something.

Edit: Keeping in mind though I use to be playing on a AMD 3200, 1 gig cosair ram, 6600 pci-e. Alt tabbing sucked so bad back then I only did it when I had too.

If you want to go cheap as hell get a crap mobo, value ram, and a ATi 800.

I've run WoW on a 800Mhz with a 5200 nvidia and 512MB of ram. It's not enjoyable at all.

EDIT

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115005 $181.49 - E6300
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813135023 $51.99 - ECS Mobo
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820150009 $94.99 - 2x512 DDR400
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130073 $119.99 - eVGA 7600

A very decent Core 2 WoW playing base for $448.46 + S/H

The mobo has 2 DDR and 2 DDR slots so he can move up later, I didnt plan for it to have DDR it was just the cheapest C2D mobo. Use the stock cooler and I guess get a nice $20 POWMAX case with a power supply and a cheap DVD ROM drive for $12. Honestly it's not the kill all system some people built but you will enjoy WoW on this system.
