Given the 200 MHz deficit (Thuban will benefit more from 200Mhz increase), the performance increase is negligible. Again, the performance increase per cost can only be jusified when taking overclocking into consideration. Most 1055Ts can do 3.7-3.8Ghz or more with the proper memory/motherboard. I suggest trying to actually overclock the Thuban more to get a better picture of the actual ceiling he has. If 3.5Ghz is all she wrote, I'd say the 8350 is worth looking into. If he finds his Thuban is stable at 4Ghz+ that changes things
I think FlawleZ has is about right, at 3.5 Ghz the 1055 is going to be pressed to keep up with the 8350.
I really need to get a 7970 and do some head to head testing . I have a 1045 T that will run 4.4ghz + ( on the FX790 GD-70 thumb.gif ) and an 8350 that is a 5ghz + machine that I could have square off against each other. I'm very interested to see what they could do smile.gif.
As for Almighty's contention that 64 player BF3 servers are Intel territory, perhaps, but I've seen benchmarks that have the 8350 besting all but the most expensive Intel chips in that situation.

You should do that.... the 4.4Ghz Thuban chip should win in the single threaded stuff and most of the multi-threaded stuff.

Do you have the overclocked X6 for comparison? maybe we could do some benchmarking to see how much of a difference there really is...i would gladly test against that X6 thumb.gif

No way man I have an FX-6100 at 4GHz that will play 64 man servers all day no lag. This is just not true at all. I also had an 8120 at 4.4Ghz and it was the same story.

Also 4.4Ghz on Thuban is exceedingly rare! I'd count on a Vishera hitting 5.5Ghz before Thuban hitting 4.4Ghz without some killer cooling (talking Phase +)

That goes against every ones results on entire internet so I'm going to have to call BS on that one...

Nah I sold my 4.8Ghz 1075T a while away, running a 5.5Ghz 2500k now..... and oh boy what a difference
post #28 of 68
FX8320 is beating consistently a X6 1100T in all gaming situations, except some very specific cases. So you can conclude a FX8350 will soundly kick a 3.5GHz 1055T's ass.

Unless you're running a cascade 24/7, or those are SS benching clocks, I find the above quite unlikely.

I'm hoping for smoother gameplay at least. I would have moments in BF3 where the framerate would drop mainly on 64player caspian border when looking at the gas station from the large antenna. Main reason for going ahead and purchasing it is that the new consoles are rumored to be supporting it which means developers will be sucking as much performance out of it as they can.

What kind of a "drop?" Like 100 FPS to 60 FPS? Or 60 FPS to 30 FPS?

So you guys are saying I'm going to have lag (FPS drop) on a 64 player map? Its been a long while since I've played one but I don't ever remember having performance issues. I'll have to fire up a game and see because I have a hard time believing my system won't be able to sustain at least 60 FPS.
