Haha I like that avatar. tongue.gif But are power supplies a set size? Like could I just take this one out and the other one would be the right size and fit in my case? I'm actually also kind of thinking of just getting a new case since the cable management in this one is such a mess, and this has really terrible airflow.

Are the dell oem power supplies really that bad? :O

There are standard sizings for PSU. Although sometimes the OEM companies tend to be jerks and sometimes do weird sizings on various things.

Dell PSUs are the least expensive, low quality PSU that can supposedly pull the wattage they are rated for for a very MINIMAL amount of time. And by Minimal I mean probably no more than maybe a few minutes at a time. Forget extended gaming sessions if you are at the max wattage.

Alright so then I guess I'll get another power supply then. Out of curiosity what would happen if it were to run at that max wattage during a long gaming session?

A low quality one like that? Short out, catch fire, throw sparks. While shorting out can fry/take out: motherboard, cpu, ram, hdd, video cards etc. Basically anything it is attached to supplying power to it can fry. Let alone the fire hazard etc, etc..

The least that would happen is that the computer would shut down.

The worst? A power surge through your CPU, Motherboard, GPU and anything else hooked up to the PSU when something inside the PSU fails to prevent the surge from toasting everything in your computer and grey smoke starts billowing from the burned capacitors and cords.

So that antec 520w one would be good? I'm thinking maybe I should get something like a 650 or 750 watt one in case I SLI in the future.

Make sure your psu is not an mATX size, like this

If it's full ATX size, like this

Then I would suggest one of these

Are the dell oem power supplies really that bad? :O
They have form factors. If it's an ATX power supply (it probably is) you can replace it with any other ATX power supply.

If you're getting a new case and are on a budget, I'd recommend NZXT's budget lineup; they seem to have everything you would want in a case for fairly cheap.

Also, you really don't need any more than 450 watts with that GPU. If you're on an Intel CPU, you need even less.
