the sensor is off range but it s dangerous because i dunno if the protection rely on this sensor to shut down the cards ,....... i wouldn't run too much like that

Just as I though it needs a shim..... Also one of the screws are stripped, quick fix, too bad I dont have a good copper shim, I guess this will have to work!

Ok Guys im reaching out for help which I dont usually have to do this is my situation:

I was originally planing on running three HD6970's in crossfire but I got my hands on a fast PCIe SSD(X4) and it had to use up one of my full slots because all my small ones are PCIe X1. So to compromise I traded two of my HD6970's for a 6990 so I could still do trifire.....
Im having that stupid driver issue where I get the BSOD or just a black screen, I have tried everything and re-installed windows several times! I have tried catalyst versions 11.2, 11.4, 12.2, 12.4, 12.8, 13.1 and the new Beta and I still get the same results. I actually got it working correctly once after installing 12.8 and it cross-fired and everything but I had a bracket issue on one of my GPU blocks and the HD6970 overheated and the system froze. I have tested the card and fixed the problem, it just shut down and crashed the driver to preserve itself as it should! But I try to install the same package and do everything just as I did before, but I still get the same old BSOD! The reason I had to install again even though I had a stable install that was working is while I had the card pulled for repairs I booted the system like a dummy doh.gif and it changed something and started to do the same stuff!

Note: The results that produced a working system were: Fresh Windows install with only wireless card driver installed, I then installed Catalyst 12.8 with both cards in and the crossfire cable disconnected...... I rebooted It got a flash of green screen then to BSOD and dump. It rebooted and showed all three cards fine. then it told me that I needed to install the cross-fire cable to enable cross-fire, so I shut down and did. Restart and it worked fine, restarted several times with no problems until the bracket issue.....

I have tried all the common fixes like the registry string delete, registry value change to 0000, different card configurations as far as slots, different roms(stock roms switch between OCd rom). Different Crossfire cables, slots and connectors all checked... thinking.gif I have plenty of power from the PSU(1000w) Tested! I also tried disabling driver signature enforcement via F8, Im stumped........

I can operate both cards just fine with drivers(ATI or Windows) and no CCC but CCC installed to enable crossfire is a NO-GO! Usually in these situations I just download a good version of the file causing the BSOD in this case "AtikMDag.sys" but I caint seem to find a download of one which points to it being a different problem.....

As for the heatsinks, sounds interesting...A custom MVG would be pretty cool, with different heatsinks, unbranded and clean...digging it already biggrin.gif

Lol, yea, It comes from overheating sometimes, but in this case its the crossfire. Crossfire tends to show crazy stuff one the third card becasue its supposed to average it with the 2nd gpu and display that....

Hmmmm. This is peculiar. The 6990+6970 configuration should work with the 6990 in the primary PCI-e slot and the 6770 in the next slot down... Have you tried doing this without having the PCI-e SSD? I know this may be irrelevant, but what if the crossfire set up is being corrupted by having that extra stream through the PCI-e bridge... it may not affect it at all since they are different pieces of hardware... Just my suggestion. Also, do you have the OS on the PCI-e SSD?

do you have another computer on which you could test them in CF ? do the 6990 work on itself with both gpu loading , with all drivers ? because 6990 is already CF in a sens,....

Yea, actually it is easier to install on a regular Sata SSD and then clone to the PCIe SSD because the Slot SSD takes special drivers on installation. So I have removed the PCIe SSD and have been troubleshooting with two sata 240GB Corsair Force Series 3 SSD's.....

I dont have another PC to test them on right now, but the board is compatible, and I have done triple crossfire with it before, And the 6990 does work by its self with the drivers but CF option does not show just for it because its embedded in the card already.....

Well actually I have been starting with a clean install each time I try a different catalyst, If by chance I don't, I go and delete the .sys(the one causing the BSOD) manually in safe mode, then restart uninstall the program using its uninstall feature then run CCleaner, and restart and Run CCleaner again....

I'm not sure you can even boot off that ssd...I'd suspect of that really, but it may be a driver thing. Drivers can be a PITA sometimes.
