H60 on 670 Issue (Dwood bracket)

I'm using Dwood's bracket to mount my H60 to my EVGA 670 FTW. For those unfamiliar with the mounting process, it can be found here. I applied a grain of rice to pea size of Antec Formula 6 on my die. I mounted it and firmly tightened the nuts. My idle temps are low, at 34C, but anytime I do anything graphics intensive it shoots up to 100C.

I took the pump off and noticed that my thermal paste hadn't spread at all, so I figured I simply hadn't tightened it down enough. I reapplied thermal paste (same amount) and made sure to tighten everything well. Same thing still happened. I noticed that when I press the pump firmly against the die, the idle temp drops from 35 to 31. I feel like the contact between the pump and the die may be bad. But this GPU isn't supposed to require a copper shim like some others do.

Does anyone have experience with this bracket and have any advice to offer? All I've found is people raving about the 620 performance, but that's an entirely different bracket.

EDIT:

Just saw on the original forum post for the bracket, the 680 requires a copper shim. His website does specify this, I just missed it. frown.gif

UPDATE:

Shim installed, new Corsair 120SP High Performance (w/ included resistors) and temps are great. smile.gif Max out at 65 degrees running Heaven, 64 running BF3. If I take the front cover off of my SG06 temps drop 6-12 degrees! So clearly the bracket and H60 are doing their job. smile.gif It's just an issue of fans/noise now.

Dwood is great!

i cannot offer any advice with your situation, but i have a 670ftw on a water block and im getting weird load temps as well, maybe a batch of cards are warped/twisted/something, i did use a level to check it and it wasn't perfectly straight, around 1-2mm difference at one end.

I just ordered it and I'll update when I get it.

UPDATE:

I used the shim to mount my H60. Right off the bat my temps were an amazing 26 at idle, with gaming temps reaching only 56. The weird thing is over the next twenty mins temps seemed to rise. My idle is at 35 now with no significant change in ambient temp. Does anyone know what could cause this?

Water isn't as cool as when it started. I use the said method as well. Works great. I'm using a 920 though.

Hmmm... Maybe I'll let it sit overnight and see what happens in the morning. I'm pretty disappointed. I really wanted to stay under the 70 C threshold so my 670 stays at max clockspeeds. Do you think anything else could help, or that there could be any other problem?

I rarely ever get over 56c so I'm unsure.
