You can open a MAC just like any other laptop. Things you can upgrade are Memory, HDD, and there are some wireless card upgrades out there but be careful on that one. He uses lots of RAM as he is a graphic artist and does animation. He also put in a bigger SSD. You will always want to check the Mac forums before you buy anything for your Mac though. Even SSD drives can be touchy with a Mac. Also you will get a lot of options when you go to purchase. They will be way overpriced.

As far as a Mac goes they tend to drop value by about $500 a year for the top end ones. This is because most Mac owners want the latest and greates from Apple. However if you sell before the new model you will usually cut that loss down to around $200 or less. Also make sure to keep it as clean and perfect as possible. Most Mac owners will not deal with a small scratch or anything like that.

I know they are overpriced which is kinda sad but I guess it's something I have count on. Personally if I didn't live in such a dumb country I would go for second hand mac, but in my country 8/10 people will try to send you $2000 brick or just try to run with the money and the rest who's actually selling isn't worth it.
Will there be price increase/decrease in 2013 (was there anything earlier?)?

Can I borrow mac from somewhere for like a day?

The price will almost certainly stay the same, just increased specs. There is speculation that there might be a Retina MacBook Air which would probably cost more, and the regular version might drop in price just very slightly. But really, you can count on similar prices.

If you have a friend that has a mac, ask to check it for a bit.

Doubt it. Unless you are doing some serious heavy disk writes daily.
The SSD however in the Retina models is one thing that is user replaceable. Bit expensive though.

The SSDs used in the Retina models are non-standard types. You'll have to pay a lot more per GB of storage space to upgrade the SSD compared to replacing a standard 2.5" or mSATA version.

Any graphics card updates in 2013 line? I will probably go for the 13' as I'm not really fancy with 2 inches and a little resolution for $800 but losing the 650M.... Might even fly for it somewhere, I dont know..

Edit: Apparently the 15 retina is $2200 in america while it's $3100 here... might be really worth flying for it somewhere.

I recently received the the minimum 13" macbook pro and I to be honest with you much prefer windows for a few reasons: the abundance of programs and things that are available to windows and not mac, the fact that I find Windows much easier to navigate (I have been using this for about a month now thought I should just say), the whole OSX setup seems to make finding things (especially program files and such) very prolonged. Also since I play games on my desktop I thought I would download a few of my mac compatible games on steam, The Binding of Isaac, Counter Strike: Global Offensive, Guild Wars 2 and Borderlands 2. They all can only run on lowest settings with about 20-25fps and if I am not using my power cable they crash apart form Isaac, obviously you're choice of macbook is more powerful but still if you play games they are not overly useful. All in all it depends what you do, but if it is a work, browsing computer I would go for a windows since you can get a much cheaper price for an equal system, my honest opinion, hope it helps in your decisions smile.gif

I have pretty powerful system (in my rig) and I'm just kinda waiting for GTA V and Crysis 3, nothing else really interests me atm and all I really play i LoL, a little Dota 2 and just started GW2. I always end up playing for like 0.5-1 hour then browse internet for few hours so I'm probably gonna sell my rig and build i3 and 7850 as normal pc or htpc. I don't really need to play games on max details since I played on lowest with old GTS450 and didn't really mind.
I mainly like how the price isn't dropping that much but it's still more then on $800 laptop

Had one of those white c2d macbooks for awhile, ran windows 80% of the time TBH.

They make good looking laptops but even some of Samsung's laptops are getting pretty good, they even have trackpads that rival apple's.

Only thing that sucks about macbook pros are they dent easy. To keep weight down they use thinner metal, makes denting the machine a regretful experience if it does happen.
Buddy has a powerbook that pretty beaten up from just sticking it in his bookbag, granted that thing is old as balls now.

I don't really pay attention to other people's opinions about denting and stuff while I see everyone throwing his stuff around like nothing. I can honestly say I dropped my phone on carpet only once in life without any damage, I value my stuff. Also how can you dent this thing notebook without damaging it? There shouldn't be much free space inside.
I really like the 13' retina, I hope 2013 will have graphics card included else I can just go with 13' air.

What would you edit video with in sony vegas style on mac? Free/paid
What about photos photoshop style but preferrably free?
How is coding in mac? I assume there is some smart software highlighting code, ending pair tags etc.

Final Cut Pro on mac for serious video editing. There are others, but that is the most common.

Well, if you want free, there is GIMP for mac. There is also just Photoshop for mac at the same price as for pc.

Coding is nice if you are coding for a Mac. XCode is personally my favorite IDE, but it is of course only for writing mac or ios applications. For general coding, I have the Sublime 2 text editor. It is fairly basic but very nice to use. Again, coding on a mac is great if you don't need to be coding for windows or linux tongue.gif
