Go 7970 CF or not? ( already have 1 MSI Lightning but... )

Hi guys,

so this is the thing. I have one MSI 7970 Lightning and i'm really happy with it. One of the best cards i had to date. The thing is, i was gaming at 1920x1080 and now i changed to 2560x1600. At this resolution, as expected, i lost some of the performance i had... by a good margin.

So, i'm thinking about get my 7970 a sister.

My question is, for those who have CF, how's the CF performance problems? Many or the CF is pretty stable?

I'm using a MSI Z77 MPower with a 3570k ... will it bottleneck, in some way, these cards?

Go crossfire if you have the money, it definitely helps to drive that beasty 1600p monitor. Crossfire is absolutely fine, AMD have fixed the majority of the problems that their drivers were causing. The 3570K and that mobo are absolutely fine for that setup.

Two card cfx is pretty hard to get wrong. As long as your cpu has a good overclock bottlenecks shouldn't be a concern. There will be some games that can take advantage of hyper threads or more cores (bf3) but those situations are pretty rare.

Thank you both for the help smile.gif

In the past, i had a 6970 CF and i never had any trouble with it ... though, a year ago i sold my entire rig for some strange reason i can't explain ... one of those things ...

but ... now and after reading that 7970 would still be the top of the line for AMD through 2013 i started thinking more and more about the CF.

And the solutions where just 2 ... or get a second 7970 or downgrade to a 24" 1920x1200 monitor i have here... and after thinking about it for a minute, i decided that leaving a 30" Dell U3011 just by the side was a huge amount of wasted money ( this monitor was used for my work, but since i closed my company and started working for another company i didn't use it that much ) ...

So yeah, i think i'll go with the option of getting a second card. It was that or getting a new case ( my computer is installed on a Dimasbench ) ... but i guess the case will have to wait.
