[INSIGHT] GTX 670 3-way SLi v. Radeon 79xx 3-way CFx

Thread Starter
I'm looking for some insight on this matter being that every GPU I've ever bought and used has been ATI/AMD. So I know the ins and out with them, and the last device I've used I can recall had Nvidia was the first gen Xbox. I really don't want this to turn into a fanboy thread or that "Card A is better then Card B because I said so" If there is someone here how has owned both Nivdia and ATi/AMD of comparable card. Please no 9800 gs vs 6970. Basically what are the advantages of each brand?

Sorry if this makes no sense.

EDIT: These are the card I'm looking to get

The drivers! But no really, both are great options. If you can grab 3 7970's, well thats game over. Invest in a loop latter on and thats all she wrote.

We talk about multimonitor? 7950/70 3 way cfx is faster by a good margin. Probably 10 % and more

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18455827

Amd have the higher memory bandwidth. (384 bit)

Nvidia have physx and cuda

Drivers is about the same both have flaws

Ok, the driver issue i get, but will PhysX help cover the gap in mem bandwidth?

The main PC game I play is Minecraft which I believe doesn't have multi GPU support. But I do also play BF3.

Side note: I do a lot of video editing with AE and SVP 10. Also will CPU matter with these cards, I run AMD and no i will not switch CPU's hmmsmiley02.gif LOL!

Well I would go for the 3-way GTX 670's because almost all of the 7970's have the voltage hard-locked, so unless you wanna mess with soldering and un-soldering, GTX 670's.
And if you have the FX-8350 your all good, if its the FX-8150/8130/ and of the X150/X130 's you need to change your CPU NOW!!!

Well they will not be used to there full power, but it will not necessarily be a problem. But dropping several hundred dollars on gpu's makes little sense if you can not do the same for the CPU. What CPU at what speeds?

This is outright misinformation. It's the Keplers that are hard locked. As for the 7970s, only some are voltage locked in bios or other method. AMD reference design is NOT voltage locked, unlike Nvidia. rolleyes.gif

I would say the 7970's because most are not voltage locked and they have the higher memory bandwidth and they have 3gb of vram. Just my 2 2cents.gif

Locked vcore means nothing to me as of yet, I mainly OC CPU and RAM

FX-8320 @ 4.6 but am considering getting an FX-8350, if need be.
EDIT: I have nothing against Intel but to spend 300-500 for a CPU and another 300-400 for a good MOBO, Not worth it to me.
