is the 4300 worth it at 109? or should I shoot for a 6300? - Page 2

If you don't want to overclock, and ESPECIALLY if you're a gamer and you don't want to overclock, it's just a bad idea to go AMD.

A lot of the value of their best performance-per-dollar CPU, the fx-6300, is in the ability to overclock it. Without that it's just not all that attractive.

Go for the cheapest i5 (i5-3350p, p meaning no integrated graphics on the cpu) @ $176.

Then pair it with a cheap motherboard like the MSI B75ma-e33 @ $57

That gives you a base cost of $233 for a solid quad-core + mobo. You can downgrade performance (i3-3220 or fx-6300 & AMD mobo), or get a more expensive i5 depending on budget. But if you're not overclocking and you really want a quad-core for some reason, you should look at that $233 point as an important 'watermark' price point.

I need a CPU / Mobo. I am not a strong overclocker (Yes I know I suck) but thats how I am. I hate fiddling with things I just want to set it up and play.
Now what do you suggest.
CPU:
4300 on sale @ Egg: $109.00
6300: $140.00 on Egg
What kind of mobo do you suggest. As I said I dont OC much or non at all. Would these CPUs being bottlenecked by higher end GPU s in Single. I dont run crossfire/sli setups but I do own a gtx 680 & a 7970

I've been looking at upgrading myself, currently the AMD FX-6300 with the Gigabyte GA-970 UD3 motherboard seem like the best combo.
The Asrock 970 Extreme 4 motherboard is a close second choice.
