I think the harsh reviews online are total crap though. They have valid criticisms / points, but they are so negative you would think there is nothing good about the game. I am a total Dead Space fanboy, so I keep that in mind when I am writing the review trying to be balanced.

I didn't even realize you were ragingcain haha. I would probably give it 5 flames out of 5. Of course, In reality, I think it deserves a 9 to a 9.5

I am trying to make it work with Visceral Studios doing an outstanding prior work, relatively glitch free, improving upon PC controls to a natural state, and developing the engine to have AA this time around.

However, this game is not a Survival Horror any more, it has the feel of EA's production pushing, and should now be considered an Action Horror Coop, the mood has definitely changed.

i definitely agree that the mood and playstyle have definitely changed, but i think this is necessary for the evolution of the storyline... this is the THIRD time Isaac has come up against the markers, so he should be decidedly more badass than the previous games. I like the fact hes taken sort of a leadership role, with the group... basically saying "listen, i've been through this before so if you want to stay alive, you'll listen"

i'm on chapter 16 right now and have enjoyed every minute of it

This definitely goes in line with what I felt. I think a lot of the disappointment occurs that it has transitioned this way. In my opinion, I prefer a survival horror, but I don't think you could sell a "Dead Space 3 story" as survival horror. I do not believe they Mass Effect 3ified this game at all though, but on the other hand, the resource gathering, the coop, the microtransactions does have a reek of EA.

Never the less, the DS3 is a solid game, but it isn't a Survival Horror Game. Like I said its a Survival Action game now.

I believe this has got something to do with the arsenal as well. For example, if you had only 1 weapon(4 slots), and no customization with less weapons like DS1, then it would have been survival horror. Horror for me would have come from the fact that "I can't kill it". If you take DS2's arsenal into DS1, then that game becomes easy as a pie. The game changing factor for me was the dentonator. I'd simply walk in the room, put a couple of mines behind me, and not worry about my back.

Though the lack of arsenal in DS1 they balanced out by giving 6 stasis shots right from the beginning of the game. However I also hate the suits in DS3 because they have no added bonus to using them. Having 50% shorter duration of stassis recharge would be a God send, like in DS2.

Also, because of the way the game works, i.e. building OP weapons on the bench using ration seals/real money, etc takes out even the survival aspect. Like the belly of the nexus, imagine the arsenal of DS1, and let it be your first playthrough. It would definitely scream "horror survival".

They made a mistake by having the Pure Survival, Classic modes in NG+. Those are the modes the game should have/offer from the beginning, as thats the way most people would prefer it.

Towards the end game I had amazingly epic weapons but I had shear combat/horror fatigue. I played through in two days and by the end I just wanted it over (complete the story.) That's usually my first play through goes. That and taking fantastic screen shots. I will touch on this, again, in the review.

so far, i dig where the game has gone... the action is intense and i've been having a blast mixing and matching any weapon combination i can think of... really dig the chaingun + rocket launcher for the lulz... mkv semi auto javelin launcher + lower pulse rifle with stasis mod is for business.
