Need advice

Alright guys, I am having a huge dilemma here and hearing SO many different opinions on what motherboard I should be getting.

I am looking to game and game only, Mostly MMOs with the possibility of playing Crysis 3.
Right now I am pretty heavy set on the ASUS Maximus V, however I am getting countless recommendations on gigabyte boards. I have been trying to find solid evidence of why one is better than the other but am just not coming up with a whole lot.

So I want to hear it from all of you smile.gif

Why do you even want to spend $280 on a motherboard? Get $150 which will perform exactly the same for gaming machine. Unless you want to push every single Mhz and don't much paying extra. Get something like MSI Z77A-GD55/GD65, Gigabyte GA-Z77X-D3H/UD3H.

Gigabyte generally gives more features per money than Asus. Their UP boards also use higher quality VRM components compared to Asus boards. However, both are overkill.

For low-end to mid-range boards, you should be looking at MSI, Biostar, and Gigabyte. You can also consider ASRock Z77 Extreme6 if you find one for cheap.

I have looked for BIOS pics of various Z77 boards. To me they all seem easy to me, just under different names. For overclocking, you want a board with decent voltage regulation module. The boards that I have listed above are more than capable for any everyday overclock. MSI boards just have a disadvantage for not providing offset overclock. It allows for voltage during idle be lower than it is during load, but unless you want to save a few bucks in power bill, or keep that system for as long as possible I wouldn't worry much.
