[BL] BF3 servers can't run PunkBuster - Page 5

I would definitely vote against that. EA? Develop their own anti-cheat service? Oh God. Their online games wouldn't survive a year. As mentioned there's a reason why nearly every developer is on board with Punkbuster. Game developers aren't security/file integrity specialists. Punkbuster, on the other hand, has a very extensive banlist history. It does its job rather fine. I've come across VERY few cheaters in BF3. I refuse to believe anyone that complains about the game having thousands of cheaters; sounds more like whining about every player that bests them.

VAC is great for one clear and undeniable reason: it's by Valve. There have supposedly only been 10 actual (reported) erroneous VAC bans in the history of VAC, aside from that COD issue where 12,000 were banned; those 12,000 bans were very quickly reversed. VAC is also somewhat "universal." If you get VAC banned in Counter Strike Source, you're VAC banned from all Source games. Great system. I wish Punkbuster worked that way via some universal database. Online gaming should require a paid membership to Punkbuster (directly tied to your identity by means of a credit check or something), where you get a single unique ID and if that ID is ever detected as using cheats, you are banned from all Punkbuster games (with the possibility of an appeal and exception being made for first-time violations) and subject to legal prosecution. If you want to repurchase another Punkbuster license (i.e. reinstate yours), it'll be at a much higher rate for each reinstatement, eventually blacklisting you altogether or costing several hundred/thousand dollars.

Before anyone jumps to criticize my idea and call it draconian: online gaming is a privilege much like driving, financing, and credit are. You are penalized for violating traffic laws and delinquencies in debt payments (for the better safety and growth of other drivers and the economy), so why not have a similar penalty system for online gaming, for the quality assurance in the consumers' entertainment?

VAC is good because it can be argued and a ban can be removed very quickly.
EA likes to ban and forget. Would not be a good thing, also it would probably be a super massive hacker target.

You put your name on it, you are responsible for every single aspect of it. Simple as that.

Hell any game is horrible if you can spray(pressing fire for more than 3 seconds) and actually hit something that is more than 20 meters away. Good luck doing that IRL with any AK series, let alone some of the other weapons like the scar, g36.

Even games that use VAC still have problems with hackers here and there. Also, where are you getting that they're releasing a Battlefield game every year? BF4 will actually be in development longer than most Battlefield games (including the Bad Company series).

this, everyone knows that developers put all their money and resources in to DRM, since it's infallible.

So DICE is responsible for EB's servers going down? Seriously, think about that for a second.

You still have relatively decent control over where your gun is pointed when hip-firing. You're not going to hit every shot, obviously, but you'll still hit some of them. If you don't believe me, go look at one of the many videos of people hip-firing AK-47s on youtube.

When standing still, in prone position or on knees. With controlled breathing by a semi or well trained marksmen. Yeah, some people can manage it. Show me someone who can do that while running, jumping and suddenly hit the floor. Hold down the trigger and you might hit your target on the first 1-3 shots but everything else will be nowhere near your target. That's all aiming with some sort of sight, be it the stock iron sights or some type of dialed in sight such as red dot, etc.

Hip firing, good luck!

EDIT: Didn't know this was BF3 Special Forces edition. This is the reason serious FPS players always fall back to cs. Yeah yeah yeah say what you will about small maps, no vehicles. BF has turned into nothing but CoD with XL maps and some vehicles.

DICE choose to use their services. Did they not? Do some of you work for dice or are you just used to taking it up the rear?

Well yeah, none of that is really possible but that's not what you said. It's a game..

What better options are there? Aside from creating their own or going through Steam and using VAC, there really isn't any and even then, it wouldn't stop hackers or prevent serverss from going down (this happens all the time for any company, including Valve) . This is absolutely pathetic that the blame is being put on DICE/EA for this. And holy crap, it was only down for a very short period of time! Talk about making a mountain out of a mole-hill.

This is just.. doh.gif
