Unfortunately, I think we will be waiting a while.

Yup, but priced right I think the first one to do so will earn a lot of money! And hopefully start a trend of 120hz high res monitors.
If it will come, or when I hope it doesn't take to long! Hell, give me at least 100hz on all monitors!

I honestly think that at this point, we will see 4K monitors (at 30" and below sizes) before we see mass-produced 120hz 1440p/1600p displays :/

30 inch IPS monitors are designed for photo / video editing professionals, as they have 10 bit color output which adds significant cost to the product.

10 bit color output also requires a quadro or firepro card in Adobe suite, so obviously this isn't being marketed for gaming. The intended audience does not care about 120hz on these monitors, cheap gamers probably would not pay 1500$ for a u3014 anyway....

As far as x1440 and 120hz, it's a confusing matter due to interface bandwidth requirements. Displayport should have the necessary bandwidth, while DVI-DL becomes questionable. Hard to say how this will play out, although I can guarantee any monitor with premier color and 10 bit color output will not have 120hz support. The intended audience isn't gaming.

Even if they did release 120 Hz 2560x1440 monitors, they would not be priced reasonably. Considering a 27" 120 Hz 1080p monitors cost a pretty penny already, a high res version would be $1000+.

They keep taking my damn pixels.

First... 2560x1600 = 4096000
Then... 2560x1440 = 3686400
Now...2560x1080 = 2764800

Look, I know we're changing the aspect ratio, but can you at least give me close to what I started with. I dunno, maybe 3000x1366.

Unfortunately, I think we will be waiting a while.

Those aren't even true >60hz panels. I don't even think they even refresh at their overlocked rates. It's more likely that they simply get input to change pixels at such a rate and then, depending on the transition times, the monitor just "appears" to refresh at such speeds. Likewise, the contrast and input lag on most IPS monitors, especially under the 400 dollar range, are pretty bad.

I thought the same thing when I wen't to Fry's to monitor shop. I saw Lg's version of the 2560x1080 and immediately didn't like it. Height wise its just too short. Shorter then a 24" and with all that extra width it just looks retarded.

I forget there are many here who don't use their monitor for gaming. The only time my rig loads up a browser is for BF3's ignorant server search program and when I'm updating my driver's. I use my macbook for everything else.
