New GTX 670 4GB ... question about default cooling (Galaxy card)

Hi ...

I just bought a second GTX 670 4GB (Galaxy) card to run in SLI with an identical card I've had for some time now...

Something I find strange about this card, though (vs my experience with the first) is that without using a fan profile in PrecisionX (or MSI Afterburner) ... the card doesn't seem to be self adjusting it's speeds according to heat/load.

Without PrecisionX and a fan profile running, the card just stays at 30% and never seems to increase it's fan speed; running Furmark sees 80+ temps in a minute or two; also, when I do use PrecisionX to run a fan profile (which seems to adjust the fans fine) ... the card still reaches 80C and higher within just a few minutes...even with 75% fan speed.

I find this unusual as the first Galaxy 670 card I had ran SUPER cool with the stock fan/cooler (it's now being cooled by an Antec 620 ...

But since I don't have much room left in my Corsair 600T case, I think I'll be leaving this second card with the stock cooler ....

But what's really strange is that without the PrecisionX software, the card doesn't seem to be properly (according to bios?) adjusting it's fan speed.

Odd...

??

Something similar happened to me with my previous 590 GTX.

The fan started to never rise no matter what, and I started to hit the 90 degrees mark. It turned out to be an issue with the driver I was using. Perhaps a little bug in that driver.

I wonder if this is related with yours.

Thanks for the word ... but what it was is this:

Card A (my long time card that uses an Antec 620 water cooler) has it's fan control in PrecisionX set to (NON AUTO) ...

Card B (my new card, has fan control set to AUTO (since I'm using the stock cooler) ...

...

In PrecisionX ... I had SYNC turned *ON* ... which was making the 2nd card sync to all of the first cards settings, therefore, even when I had the 2nd card running without a custom fan profile and simply set to "AUTO" ... it was still inheriting the first card's setting of "NON-AUTO" ...

Man ... what a relief (I was going around all day fretting having to RMA/exchange my card cause I thought the BIOS was whacked.

Anyway, as soon as I turned off SYNC (a little radio toggle on the main PrecisionX interface) ... the 2nd card now automatically controls it's fan speed without software intervention (IE > custom fan profile).
