Can someone explain to me why you'd buy an outdated $70 GPU and then spend $80-120 on a water block for it? Surely a 400- or 500- series card would be much better value.

welp, lets see gtx 275 plus water block $180 what 400-600 series card are you going to get that is fresh/ refurbished etc and water cooled for the same price...i patiently await your post.

there are people with older cards and system who dont want to dump 350-400 on a new card as well.

I'm not suggesting that you should get a 400- or 500- series card in order to water cool it. It seems to me that you will get much much much more performance by getting a 570 for about $200 and keeping it on air than you ever will from a nuts-OC'd 275. First of all, the 275 is a DX10 card, which is a pretty large hit out of the gate in terms of how nice your games will look. Secondly, it only has 240 cores which run at a measly 633 Mhz. Let's say you can get that up to 800 on water. A 570 on air has twice the cores (480) at a higher stock clock speed. So dollar for dollar, the 275 looks like an affordable way to waste a $100 on a waterblock you'll never be able to resell. I totally understand if you have a custom loop and refuse to run a card on air, but nearly $200 before you got any of the tubing/fittings seems like a raw deal for such a crummy card.

obviously this post was for a specific subset you dont fit into. the person who responded and the second do fit. as far as watercooling well someone may want to add a card into there loop for asthetics in there system as there truely is no reason to water cool in general unless you are going nuts out on an overclock. btw suggesting someone spend 200 on a card who is looking to spend 70-100 is not helpful. you sir are a gamer with slightly larger pocket and budget than some. no one here is suggesting this is the best solution but would this card do great for rendering on a budget? yes. The latest games no but then wouldn't that person be looking at a 460 and up anyway? just saying bro not everyone is shopping for the same things with the same goal in mind. dig?
