the problem with low quality PSU is that when it goes, it likes to take friends with it. something like that spanking new 680 GTX you are thinking about wasting money into since your phenom wont be able to drive it to its edge anyway.

will a PSU improve performance of your system? no. but it's like saying would a fire extinguisher keep a oil refinery working faster? biggrin.gif it doesn't mean you don't need one. you NEED to allocate part of your small budget to a quality PSU, or the additional load of your upgrades may end up as charcoal when your PSU decides to take a perma break from working.

And If you guys could post links to parts that would stay within the budget all together and still improve my preformance, that would be helpful.

no one on OCN knows more about PSU then original sin. and here is the list of recommended PSU's he's put together

for your purpose, I wouldn't waste $ on anything bigger then a 600w unit. ANY of the one's recommended by sin on that list will last you a good long time and ensure any components attached to the PSU will not be harmed if the PSU was to fail for any reason. (short of a direct lightening strike at your house biggrin.gif)

You can get a new PSU, if you do, I would suggest an fx 4100 processor and a 660 ti or 560 ti
post #18 of 35
FX-4300 + 7850/7870/7870 XT depending on what's leftover on the budget.

And yeah, that PSU's crap.

With being able to get a new PSU and the Fx-6300 I can afford a 650ti 2Gb card.. Which Should be a significant increase from my GTS 450, and It's at a decent price and should do the job for what games I mostly play.

Go with AMD GPU, their cards have significantly better value. You'll get better out of your money.

Go with FX-4300 and 7870 you'll get great performance and that's the best balance between CPU and GPU.
