Zowie EC1 Evo white review

So I bought a EC1 Evo glossy white version. Played a bunch of Counter-Strike.

My thoughts

Shape/grip:
It feels like the IE 3.0 but a bit higher, more rounded, less curvy, and the right side is a bit higher. Overall feels like a less ergonomic and higher version of the IE 3.0. the grip is fantastic for people with dry hands. I could not grip the Deathadder Black Edition at all, the thing would just slip out of my hands every time. The gloss on this puppy sticks to my hands.

LOD:
The LOD is really low, but I'm still debating whether it's a good thing or a bad thing. I found myself often having to swipe more than usual because it would stop tracking much earlier due to the low LOD. Normally I reset my mouse by picking it up at an angle, most mice will turn you a bit further, zowie mice completely stops turning.

Sensor:
This thing is consistent at 1000 hz according to mouserate.exe. Setting it to 500hz using the mouse buttons is a very unstable 500 hz (sometimes goes up to 1000 hz). I just leave this mouse at 1000hz. Feels smooth overall.

Shell/buttons/scroll:
The white version is glittery, as Sujoy said it looks like a girly mouse and the red LED doesn't help. I'm a manly man, but I can look past this. The buttons feel standard, I've never had huano switch mouse but the buttons are soft but sharp. The kinzu v2 pro (omrons) felt more "clicky" if that's a word. I prefer the omron clicks, I might be going crazy but I think I feel a vibration on my finger each time I click the EC1 Evo. Scroll wheel has a bit of drag compared to my IE 3.0 and Kinzu v2 pro. The scroll wheel is also oversized for this mouse, this thing could be a tire for a toy RC car.

Overall it's a good mouse, so far I'm liking it. Tracks great, runs at 1000 hz consistently. Low LOD might be a bad thing, but we'll see.

When you said it was unable to stay at 500hz, did you set it to 500hz using a third party software or the method advertise by Zowie?

Make sure the mouse is UNPLUGGED.
125 Hz: Hold mouse 4+5 and plug the mouse into USB. When the wheel lights up, the mouse will be 125 Hz.
500 Hz: Hold mouse 5 and plug the mouse into USB. When the wheel lights up, the mouse will be 500 Hz.
1.000 Hz: Hold mouse 4 and plug the mouse into USB. When the wheel lights up, the mouse will be 1.000 Hz. (Only do this if you have previously changed to 125 or 500 Hz).

Method by Zowie.

Day 2 update:

I think I'm getting used to this low LOD, but I still have to swipe more frequently.

Tracking-wise I don't know what to say. It feels smooth and crisp, but it feels like my crosshair sometimes moves a bit further or a bit shorter from where I'm trying to aim. I'm trying to figure out if this is due to me being used to probable negative accel on my IE 3.0 @ 125 hz. (I play with 29 cm/360 sensitivity and I flick shot a LOT). Another small note that someone might help me figure this out, I snipe way better with 125 hz than 500 hz (difference is night and day), I have no idea why.

It will take you abit of time to adapt to the new hz and no neg accel

I also have that mouse, and there are certain things about it that I don't like. One is that the white plastic is semi-transparent (like the white wmo but not as much), meaning that in the dark, you can see the red led thru the mouse. Also that skin and fat will stick to the surface and make "dirt piles" on the mouse after a couple of days, on the other hand, the glossy surface is very easy to clean.

Sniping better at 125Hz? I would say that is because you do not overshoot your target with 125Hz as there is a delay compared to 500Hz or 1000Hz. Then add in the negative acceleration that the Intellimose has.

You might want to lower your sensitivity or just play a lot.

I actually think it is cool to see the red light from the scroll wheel coming through.

If the shell was thicker it would be heavier.

I have the problem with the girp with my ec1 evo.. you get used to it, but I am used to gripping the mosue tightly and it stickling to my hand smile.gif so Im gonna try the white version to see if it works better for me.

I really played terrible for a long period of time.. really underestimated the changes of 125hz/250hz to 1000hz, the DPI changes I did (from 1600 to 1800 to 800 to 1150) etc etc.. this has influenced my aiming a LOT. But I guess its only a matter of time and gewtting used to.

Yarrr, the coating has a huge influence on your grip. I wish I had bought the white version of EC1.

I have the regular EC1 EVO, no issue with the grip. My beef with the mouse is the large surface area mouse feet always seemed to kind of stick to the pad no matter which pad I tried, and I kept going back to death adders to keep a smooth glide.

I got these speed skatez BF made by Zowie, and it has now become my preferred mouse. Work well on Goliathus control and Hien.

Just FYI for anybody who doesn't like the glide.

And another FYI, the feet made by Puretrak are garbage, stick to the Zowie. smile.gif
