Practices like no demos. exclusive content. terrible gameplay. misleading previews. day one dlc. and so on and so forth.

Chumps.

I agree that MOST of the time, preordering doesn't make much sense at all. However, there are times it does, like back when Halo would release or another HUGE title that there is a high likelihood you won't be able to show up willy nilly day of and pick up the game. It also ensures you won't have to stand in that long line of people to be the first to grab it off the shelf. Not to mention some preorders have additional incentives .

Only chumps make ignorant blanket statement and claims. Do you not think before you post?

This is true if the pre-order is for an actual retail hard copy. I think we can all agree that there is no point in pre-ordering a digital copy even if it can be pre-installed. Everyone is going to get a copy then and no one can be so impatient that they can't wait for the damn thing to download. As for additional incentives? Thous are 100% BS just like day one DLC. Its stuff that has been purposefully cut from the game in order to reel in more people. That type of behavior should no be encouraged.

Funny story actually I got Deus Ex: HR on a steam sale with all the bells and whistles. In the first mission I chose the non-lethal weapon. Then I start the mission and up comes a prompt "Thank you for buying the Deluxe edition, as reward here's a sniper rifle". I was like are you kidding me!!! You just totally ruined my game by removing a lot of the first missions challenge. I can't believe some people actually pre-ordered the game so they could get the damn sniper rifle.

Not sure if it's been posted here yet, but thanks to another member here, I was made aware of a mod for the game that increases the lighting and shadow quality. http://www.moddb.com/mods/aliensdx10-better-grafik-and-light/downloads/aliensdx10-ver-1

In the case of Human Revolution.. more people probably preordered it because it's Deus Ex, not for the sniper rifle. Most incentives hardly affect my decision to preorder. If I'm going to end up buying the game anyway, I might as well. Even if people hate the game post-release, I like to find out for myself.

If you don't like preordering, fine.. but it's not a horrible thing if people do it and we're not suckers for doing so. Sometimes something like this happens, but it's not that high of a chance if you're smart about it.

True, we understand some games can be way different from what was advertised, but the problem is that people who purchase preorders for DIGITAL games on steam or origin or GMG, etc, whether the game is good or not, are the same people encouraging to this behavior, as well as day 1 DLC. That's the growing issue I see.

Sadly, the more I look into this mod the more it looks like it doesn't do anything. People have reported that the game still runs in dx9 regardless. I haven't tried it yet so I can't comment on it myself.

Only chumps make ignorant blanket statement and claims. Do you not think before you post?

The artificial scarcity that some game companies force is an attempt to coerce people into pre-ordering (and a way to hype up the game). If you let them get away with this tactic and pre-order then yes, you're a chump.

There is no time or situation where giving a company money ahead of time for an unknown and unproven product doesn't make you a chump.

I guess that applies to Crowdfunding as well?

There's nothing artificial about "out of stock" or "backordered". This is a reality for everything not just games. And anytime you purchase something without trying your taking a risk. More times than not, you can't "try before you buy" on products. So by your failed logic the next time you purchase food you haven't tried first at the store, that makes you a "chump".
