Hey

I've done alot of google researching, i've followed sean websters SSD guide.
But there are still stuff unsolved

My specs from speccy:

Operating System:
Microsoft Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit

CPU
AMD Phenom II X4 955
Deneb 45nm Technology

RAM
4,00 GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 668MHz (9-9-9-24)

Motherboard
ASUSTeK Computer INC. M4A87TD/USB3 (AM3)

Graphics
BenQ FP202WA (1680x1050@60Hz)
ATI Radeon HD 5800 Series (XFX Pine Group)

Hard Drives
932GB SAMSUNG HD103SJ ATA Device (SATA)
112GB KINGSTON SV300S37A120G SATA Disk Device (SSD)

Optical Drives
TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-S202H ATA Device

Audio
ASUS Xonar DG Audio Device

'

Question 1. I've set SATA Ports 1-4 as AHCI and 5-6 as IDE. All AHCI ports are 6 GB/S (SATA III)
SSD is in port 1 and my older HDD (SATA II) drive is in IDE 5. I did this because if the HDD would be in AHCI mode, then i wouldn't be able to have SATA III (6GB/S) mode on those AHCI ports, right? Which means i have to select SATA II (3GB/S) or [AUTO]. I haven't tried [AUTO] but i dont know how to confirm that the SSD in port 1 will be driven in SATA III (6GB/S) mode or not.

Question 2. In my mainscreen for BIOS, none of my AHCI-ports 1-4 are detected. Just IDE-ports 4-5. Should i be worried? (i can only see the HDD)

Question 3. In BIOS boot-priority it detects my SSD as an IDE. But the program AS SSD says AMD_SATA = OK, i assume this means i have a AMD_driver for AHCI, AHCI = ON right?
Besides that, in device manager, it detects AMD SATA controller.
sean webster said AHCI is ON. i trust him on that.

Question 4. Even if question 3 is correct, the MSAHCI.sys START in regedit has the value of 0 and the amdsata.sys has the value of 3, shouldnt this look reversed?

Question 5. On my SSD tests on AS SSD i get these results:

This is considerably lower than the score reviewers get (520-560) and in the copy benchmark they get ALOT faster results. What is holding me back?
Source: Kingston SSDNow V300 120GB SSD Reviews:
http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Reviews/Specific.aspx?ArticleId=35102
http://www.legitreviews.com/article/2097/
http://www.rwlabs.com/article.php?id=754
http://thessdreview.com/our-reviews/kingston-ssdnow-v300-ssd-review/

Question 5.1. I tried switching to MSAHCI again (by rollbacking) to test the score, but i got the same results, then i reinstalled amd_drivers again, without uninstalling any drivers or anything, is this procedure of installing/rollbacking/reinstalling OK? (Installing amd_driver -> rollbacking to MSAHCI -> REinstalling amd_driver)

Question 6. The amd chipset driver and ahci driver and usb 3 driver i used is this http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/raid_windows.aspx
But windows is telling me that USB 3 drivers must be updated, i mean... its the latest? How do i know if i have USB 3 or not, the device manager show nothing about USB 3. The package says it includes USB 3, but it doesnt seem its installed? How do i even know if it updated my chipset drivers?
Solved, i just installed the USB 3 drivers from manufacturers website (ASUS + my mobo model). I also installed the chipset drivers from ASUS, however not their AHCI, since it doesn't seem to work (i have to create a disk n ***** in order to install this)

Question 7. Windows also says AMD Cool N Quiet should be installed for power management, but when i look at CPU-Z i can clearly see that it clocks itself down by itself already, is this really needed? SOLVED! Thx MrNishi, just confirmed: amd cool n quiet is working, even though i havent actively downloaded the utility from ASUS/amd site. CPU-Z says my processor is clocking down at chill times.

Question 8. As Sean suggested, i created backup/restore before any installs and then one after the basic installs (drivers, important programs). The files are stored on my HDD-partition, is my HDD gonna be affected by a future restore or it is just the C: drive (SSD) (basically the only one i selected when prompted). I dont want important files on the HDD to be altered. Thx sean for clearing this up

Question 9. Regarding RESERVED PARTITIONS, it seems that i have 2x of these: (sry for the swedish text)

How do i make the reserved partition disappear? Because ive only seen guides how to put a reserved partition from the secondary drive into the primary, but the primary already has one reserved.
IMPORTANT: Yes i did disconnect (just the sata-cable, not the powercable) the HDD drive when installing OS on the SSD. The HDD drive has my old OS.

Question 9. Is it okay now to wipe the crap out of the OS-partition on my HDD? Solved on my own, GOOGLE IS THE SH'T!

Question 10. Does it matter that my SSD/OS/System drive is registered as Drive 1 and not Drive 0, while the storage driver HDD is registered as drive 0? SOLVED, apparently, this shouldnt matter. and my comp is a living proof!

here is my SSD benched, sata2 speeds only though so i cant get to your sequential read speeds

since we have about the same size drive, but I don't know what controller yours is, from what I understood from Sean Webster, that certain controllers prefer certain benches.

your access time seems high for an ssd

well, that shouldn't matter since the reviewers used AS SSD, same SSD, same program, different scores. the reviewers got similar scores comapared to each other, but my score differs.

Just to clarify. Before i installed W7 on my SSD, i turned off my comp, went straight to bios and changed the slots 1-4 to AHCI and 5-6 IDE. Disconnected the HDD and connected the SSD and started installing W7. The SSD has always been AHCI since it was born (first plugged in my comp) ^^. However as i mentioned above (question 1-3) windows/bios tells me different things all the time about which mode the SSD runs in.

Thanks for taking your time! I'll get screenshots of bios, gotta get my camera brb.

EDIT: Pictures

BEFORE i changed port 4-5 to AHCI just now:

AFTER i changed port 4-5 to AHCI:

The reason why i had Port 4-5 in IDE for the HDD in the first place, compability stuff:

Are you sure you cilcked on every possible tab, if it sees the drive anywhere it should show up under sata devices (not doubting your skills just know that i sometimes get lost in bios tabs)

Have you updated BIOS? (it seems to be contradicting itself ahci vs ide) If your comfortable updating your BIOS to latest versions that may display the missing drives.

Also go to the motherboard manafacturers site and make sure you have all of the latest drivers installed including the sata controller and usb drivers.

Hope this helps.

I just doublechecked! nope, BIOS doesnt detect the drives. i know that before i got the SSD, when all SATA-ports were set on IDE, i could see my HDD (former OS/system disk) in Sata Port 1 with all empty ports listed too (1-6 IDE).

No i haven't updated BIOS, i googled that before all this, it seems scary to do that

Thats what i was wondering on Question 6.

instead of downloading motherboard drives and such from this site:
http://www.asus.com/Motherboard/M4A87TDUSB3/#support_Download_30

i just downloaded this:
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/raid_windows.aspx
chipset drivers + usb 3 + ahci

although the ASUS link provides a single chipset driver file that is ~190MB
while AMD provides a 26MB file.
have i been missing out on not using the ASUS site? i didnt use the ASUS site because they updated it in 2010 while AMD did it 2013...

I personally would use the asus drivers.

though I cannot comment about one specifically being better than the others.

Bios updates are pretty easy, nothing to worry about, should be doable to USB

My Asus board was extremely easy to update

I would recommend updating the bios to the newest version if you can find someone who is comfortable doing it to help you. (more complicated if asus is making you switch to a cap file but doesnt look like yours does) usually goes pretty easy, sometimes there are a few issues and there is always the slim possibility of bricking the board. (on my last bios update (converted to cap file) somehow my hdd sleep setting in windows switched to immediatly and wouldnt let my SSD boot requiring a safemode start and setting change to get the SSD working again. only issue I have had in 10 or so updates)

As far as drivers you NEED (in my opinion) to go to the ASUS site and install all of the latest drivers for your board, its thier board and it needs thier drivers thumb.gif.

If you do use a usb to flash bios make sure you have a few different brands, I have had compadibility issues with cruizers in the past and it can be frustrating to figure out so if you do maybe load the file on a few different ones.

Older AMD boards suck lol.

Why not have the HDD in port 2?

Question 2. In my mainscreen for BIOS, none of my AHCI-ports 1-4 are detected. Just IDE-ports 4-5. Should i be worried? (i can only see the HDD)
If the drive is visible to windows you're fine.

Question 3. In BIOS boot-priority it detects my SSD as an IDE. But the program AS SSD says AMD_SATA = OK, i assume this means i have a AMD_driver for AHCI, AHCI = ON right?
Besides that, in device manager, it detects AMD SATA controller.

Your driver is right and you are in AHCI mode.

Question 4. Even if question 3 is correct, the MSAHCI.sys START in regedit has the value of 0 and the amdsata.sys has the value of 3, shouldnt this look reversed?
dont worry about it, doesnt matter

Question 5. On my SSD tests on AS SSD i get these results:

This is considerably lower than the score reviewers get (520-560) and in the copy benchmark they get ALOT faster results. What is holding me back?

Ton of factors affect that. Don't worry about it. You can run prime 95 on a single thread when benching and your results should be better.

Question 6. I tried switching to MSAHCI again (by rollbacking) to test the score, but i got the same results, then i reinstalled amd_drivers again, without uninstalling any drivers or anything, is this procedure of installing/rollbacking/reinstalling OK? (Installing amd_driver -> rollbacking to MSAHCI -> REinstalling amd_driver)
its fine

How do i even know if it updated my chipset drivers?

idk

if it works then no need to think about it, if it doesnt then hopefully someone else knows.

Question 8. As Sean suggested, i created backup/restore before any installs and then one after the basic installs (drivers, important programs). The files are stored on my HDD-partition, is my HDD gonna be affected by a future restore or it is just the C: drive (SSD) (basically the only one i selected when prompted). I dont want important files on the HDD to be altered.
if the image was of just the SSD it will only affect the SSD.

The HDD drive has my old OS.
delete the one that shows up in my computer.

Question 9. Is it okay now to wipe the crap out of the OS-partition on my HDD? Solved on my own, GOOGLE IS THE SH'T!
lol

Question 10. Does it matter that my SSD/OS/System drive is registered as Drive 1 and not Drive 0, while the storage driver HDD is registered as drive 0? SOLVED, apparently, this shouldnt matter. and my comp is a living proof!
yup
