2.1 system for near field computer listening - $1000 budget

Hello..

I'm currently searching for a good speaker setup for my computer. I'm trying to stay away from studio monitors simply because I want a more musical sound and less of a clinical sound for mixing. However, I realize this might be my only option if I want decent sound.

I'm looking for any opinions on this matter. I see most computer speakers have very small woofers which I am worried about. I wonder if that doesn't matter if I'm using a sub? Please help me out!

Swan D2.1SE is probably your best bet for speakers. It has good base extension and output. Keep in mind that the Swans are fairly large, 24 lbs each! Depending on your listening habits, (size of your room), you may not need a subwoofer.

Subwoofer, plenty of options... HSU, Epik, Lava, Chase Home Theater, SVS.

My problems with the Swans are the fact that they are rear ported. If I could handle rear ports I would get the Airmotiv 5s.

Are you placing the speakers closer to a wall?

Judging by your mentioning of the Emotiva speaker, you want an active speaker?

Think I found what might suit me. Been researching for weeks. The Paradigm Shift Atom A2 looks intriguing.

I read an article regarding those that had an issue with hissing constantly and it seemed to be from the amp.

Also might want to check these out: http://www.axiomaudio.com/computer-speakers

I've been looking at 2.1 setup to replace my Z2300's and am having a hard time finding what I want. Most active speakers don't have sub woofer outs which would be ideal. I might just give up and go with a receiver and some high quality bookshelf speakers.

If you wanted to go 2.0 for now and add a sub later...check out Genelic, probably best you can get.

UGH I have been reading about the hiss as well. It figures that there would be an issue. This would really be the perfect speaker. I emailed the company to see if the hiss issue has been resolved at all and if there are any local stores that sell them so I can check them out first. Genelec's are too expensive for me. They do look nice though.

When I get a response and/or check out these speakers in person I'll let you know how it goes. Till then I'll be looking still.
