That's normal, they have to cover themselves in case of idiots trying to abuse things, hence the case by case basis thing. Are you on your first rodeo with software or customer support for anything ever?

The actual MS office team have now officially told you that your license doesn't die with your pc or if you want to "move it to a new one" it is indeed possible to do so.

Which they said after the backlash. PR, who are more in the know that Indian tech support, officially confirmed the previous. It's only after the backlash do we have official confirmation that a dead PC doesn't invalidate your licence... The announcement was made to "address concerns", and later said they they're looking into the other legitimate complaints regarding the retail licencing.

Looks like a full-on back pedal to me. So, no you weren't right before, but you're right now wink.gif

Funny because the actual Microsoft Office team (people who make the thing) statement backs up myself and the "indian tech support" (people who regularly provide support for the thing) who I showed said you could indeed transfer a license from a dead pc to a new one etc, not the PR who are supposedly "more in the know" and yet couldn't actually answer the questions properly.

I was correct before the official statement, and I am indeed correct now.

The Office Team didn't "confirm" this until after the lacklash.

You were wrong before, and right now. Right now because they amended in the face of the backlash biggrin.gif

And my point is still standing, they're putting unnecessary hassle on the end user simply to push for Office 365 subscriptions and it appears to be backfiring.

Nope. The wording of the agreement has not changed, but the perceived application of it ("have to buy a new copy if you change pc for any reason") has changed.

My assertion that this was not the case was consistent and has been confirmed to be correct.

Your assertion that the incorrect interpretation by "experts" was correct was consistent and has been confirmed incorrect.

biggrin.gif I'm not wrong

This comes AFTER the backlash. The wording of any licence is vague.

Like I said, PR said no, backlash, official blog comes out saying opposite.

Yeah, totally was that all along rolleyes.gif

I bought my copy from the Microsoft HUP. This is what the FAQ says.
