I am looking at a customer's laptop that won't turn on with a friend, and we basically isolated everything.. took out ram, hard drive, battery, etc.. and no matter what the sucker won't turn on. I thought before telling the customer the mobo is dead I would ask you guys on here since you guys helped me through so much stuff on my old builds lol. thanks in advance

Are you sure the ac adapter is good? I had no power from an ac adapter that I was told worked perfect. Or if you can be 100% sure the batter has some juice you should see some kind of lights blink. If no lights come on or blink then I would say it needs a new motherboard.

Just to mention I dont know the model of the laptop or how the power jack is but sometimes its just putting a new one on. They are cheap under 5.00 on ebay. I even fixed one by resoldering the existing jack work a shot before tossing out the board.

Most definitely check that ac adapter. Use a voltmeter to check its output.

well, like 2 lights come on when AC is plugged in and turned on. Power Button lights up and the power light at the bottom left lights up.. But really nothing else happens. I hear no fans or HD spinning. Sometimes i'll hear the CD ROM. I'll try the volt meter. That was something i was already gonna try once my friend gets back.

He probably tried to flash a BIOS but it went bad, that normally happens.

I scratched one of the tracks on the motherboard near the CPU, it powers on, but nothing happens, no fans, no post, just the power light. It needs to be RMAed. (This was from my old laptop, I forgot to add "EDIT")

One other thing you could try, remove the HDD and CD Drive then power it on, see if it boots, if not, then remove the RAM and try powering it on and see if the CPU fan will spin. It could possibly be a short somewhere, check for any spills also.

When you turn it on can you open the cd drive? can you hook it up to an external monitor?

I came across info to fix the bios possibly if thats what the issue is. post was from 9/2011 so you might see a new bios.

Updating the BIOS will require a USB flash drive to store the BIOS information on during the update. To perform the update to the BIOS:
1. Go here http://support.acer.com/us/en/default.aspx and download the latest BIOS for the netbook.
2. Extract the files from the downloaded zipped BIOS file.
3. In the Dos_Flash folder, rename the BIOS file from 3310.fd to ZG5IA32.FD, in all capital letters.
4. Copy ZG5IA32.FD and Fla****.exe to the USB flash drive
5. Ensure that the AC adapter is plugged in.
6. Insert the USB flash drive into a USB port.
7. Press and Hold down the Fn and the Esc keys together and press the power button.
8. When the unit's power light comes on wait a few seconds and release the Fn and Esc keys.
9. After the keys have been released the power light will start to blink.
10. During the BIOS update process the display will be blank.
11. Let the unit run and after approximately 1 to 7 minutes, the unit should reboot and the BIOS will be updated.
If the unit fails to reboot, or the BIOS was not updated sucessfully, try the steps again. If the unit continues to fail to reboot, the unit may need service.
Good Luck

It could easily be a dead motherboard, my freind has an acer and he has had his die on him several times, twice they needed to completely replace the motherboard.
