2720mdp-pivot Display Port Issues

Just got my 2720mdp-pivot which is awesome. No dead pixels, no damage, everything is sweet.

I wanted to avoid the Dual Link DVI adaptor since its $70 - $100 so I got a cheap Thunderbolt (Mini Displayport basically) to Displayport cable which from everything i've read should work fine...but it doesn't.

I've enough cables kicking around to do a bunch of testing.

thumb.gif - Thunderbolt -> Adaptor -> Single DVI
thumb.gif - HDMI -> HDMI
thumb.gif - Thunderbolt -> HDMI
mad.gif - Thunderbolt -> Displayport. Laptop recognizes the screen, flickers, led goes red and then repeats.

Before i send it back - does anyone know of any reason why this wouldn't work other than a technical fault?

Keep me updated I was looking at getting the 2720mdp and using a displayport cord.

I had a CROSSOVER 27Q LED-P, but ended up selling it because I couldn't get the dual link dvi to work. I tried monoprice and apple cords and both would just flicker on then off every 3-5seconds with my macbook air 2012. I ended up finding out from monoprice there is a problem with 10.7.5 and 10.8 and up with displaying 2560x1440.
