Question for enthusiasts regarding money (SLI to quad SLI)

First of all let me tell you how jealous i am of the setup some of you guys have.. but i have a few questions about your thoughts in regards to the money behind it.

I know this is OCN and MOAR POWER and all but hey im curious.

Some of you obviously make alot of money and can spend it however you want.. but those who dont.
For thoses who have 690s or are planning on 2 x titans or quad 680s and always upgrade when a new better card comes out..

Do you guys literally save all your money that you dont use just t put in into your computer? Besides say food and rent.. do you just load it into your pc? I have a friend thats like that.. and i personally cant justify it as PC gaming is a hobby of mine and i work mostly on my laptop.. I like graphics but i cant see myself spending 1000$ + on cards and i just want to get inside the mindset of someone who does..

Stories or justification.. just curious

Im curious on this subject too. I see the Titan spec and just drool knowing i could never afford it. I have to save for months for a GPU upgrade and even then it may only be once every 2 years or so and i usually sell my old cards to friends/family at a discount. I wish i had the income to constantly test and tweak new kit. I love OCing and benching. Its a great hobby but once im stable and squeezed every drop out of my rig, i have to wait until my next OC adventure. I should imagine most members here that have 4 x the latest gpu and then change kit regularly do so through selling on theirs parts when new tech arrives. Otherwise they would have a mountain of GPUs building in the attic.

When I had no money, I saved up until I had enough for the part I wanted. Sometimes it was painstaking but always very rewarding, and that's how I got into overclocking; to make the midrange parts perform like the high-end expensive ones.

Now I make enough that I could have a couple systems kept at the bleeding edge, but I end up instead spreading it around to have many interesting systems that all get used, either at work or home. In general I pick up things when the price is right, or buy something that interests me, then build something when all the parts are together or when I get an idea for something. This ends up being almost weekly, depending on what's for sale and how much.

Once in a while I'll drop a bigger dollar, like when I moved to X79. I just enjoy building, so i constantly change up systems or upgrade, then sell the old stuff off on ebay.

Right now, most of the PCs on my rig list have been replaced by newer or upgraded, I just dont' have time to update the list or take pics wink.gif. If I added up the money spent it would probably be frightening, so I never add it up or keep a tally.

I'm new to this forum, (HELLO OCN!) but I've been following it for years. One thing I find from people that post here is that 1.) They are extremely knowledgable about computers. 2.) They are very enthusiastic about them. You put these things together and to answer your question you have a group of people that are perhaps successful financially and/or prioritize thier cash flow toward high end PC parts. Likely a little of both.

I don't know how many of us skip lunch to save for parts, but hey u gotta have priorities! bike.gif
