Getting pre-built gateway but i got some questions - Page 2

Are you sure you don't want to try and BYOPC again? Spending $450 on a pre-built and then dumping some of the OEM parts doesn't sound like the best way to spend.. IDK.. Just my .02

I would have to agree with this.
For about $350ish you should be able to get a cpu/mobo/ram Cpu $200 I5 3570k or fx 8350. Mobo, $100 should be enough to get a quality one. And ram is cheap like borscht compared to the old ddr2 days.
Especially since you're planning on (potentially) reusing your GPU and PSU and you already own windows too.
You could use the extra money and buy an SSD and really burn it up. the 250gb or so ones go on sale in the $150 range often.

i might decide to give intel a try but i will never buy another amd product again that's for sure the main reason im considering the gateway is to eliminate the possibility of a none functioning system i am tired of endless diagnosing and constant BSOD. it would be nice to just turn the pc on and have it work and if it doesn't someone can come and fix it for me and i wont have to worry about it.

the system I am using right now is the first one I ever built (2009) and it has never BSOD or not power up.
when I first put it together I didn't know what too expect as I never built one and it powered right up and I installed
windows and it's been great ever since, my only upgrade is my current case. since this one I have built 6 more
for friends and family with no issue for them either. I will never buy another pre-bulit system as I think it's fun to
build these, my only problem was is researching parts for my first build, it gave me a headache.smile.gif

i know compaq sucks my grandma had one and when the hard drive died 2 weeks after buying it they pretty much said tough luck go buy a new one. my uncle on the other hand has had about 15 gateway systems (he works IT for office building) and not one has ever had any problems he personally owns the one im going to get and it works fine for over a year so its a good quality one.

i haven't had much luck in building computer it seems like something always goes wrong down the road this time im convinced its either a PSU, MoBo, or CPU problem and i Don't have the time to build or troublshoot to find out for sure. so a pre-built system with a few upgrades would be perfect.

I've read this, and unfortunately I disagree with this. I see alot of problems with pre-built systems, and as long as everything is done properly when first set up, there should be no issues for years to come. You get longer warranties for buying individual parts, higher quality parts, and it still costs less. In fact, I looked at your last threads you've made in the past week and a half, and it seems like you didn't quite figure the issue out, you didn't get replies in your threads until you were finished and found the issue. Now, if you want I can go ahead and help you fix your current system. Or we can build a new one, but I wouldn't rule out AMD all of a sudden. Or, you can buy your new gateway and void the warranty and get a lower-quality motherboard (seriously, pre-built systems have AWFUL motherboards, I see caps pop all the time at my work. Want pictures?).

Your choice. PM me if you want.

Touchee shadman. Especially if your retailer offers their own instore replacement warranty. If something dies, pull it out, take it in, and get a new one.

What is the point of this? You will just have your current pc with a gateway CPU, CASE, and MOBO. If you are having issues, and the Gateway solves it, thats a pretty small list of things that could be bad. Also, you cant oc on those computers.
