$3000 dream machine - Page 20

Based off of initial list, quad-SLI is a waste except for benchmarking. The driver support is always finicky at best.

Recommend getting SLI of new Geforce GTX Titan's set to be released. Performance should be on par with about 3 GTX 680s and leave you with the ability to get a 3rd and 4th.

I also was recently burned by ASUS RMA on their high end boards. I recommend Gigabyte's excellent warranty or EVGA. Both have had great customer service with me.

I recommend a single SSD for OS and 4 SSDs in RAID 1 + 0 for both performance and stability. I keep all my important stuff on the safer 1 + 0, I never care if I have to wipe Windows and start fresh.

Cheeseling, you said you're going to do a lot of 4k, so do you have 4k capture cards?

Personally I would advise going dual Xeon. But be advised many Intel chipset server boards require ecc. That will drive your price up.

See I stopped believing he's serious as I've asked several times about this 4k video he plans to edit and he's ignored me every time.
Either he has no idea what he's on about, has no need for the hardware other than simply because he can afford, is is just plain trolling.

$6k would build a killer editing rig, but pointless spending all that if he's never gonna load it up.
Also for editing, a 3930k at 4.5-4.7 would be as fast if not faster than two lower end 6 or 8 core Xeons; it would only be when rendering and encoding that dual Xeons will shine and even then the performance advantage is highly dependent on what exactly is being rendered.

I agree with dual Xeons if he's at all serious about his plans for usage, but I'd suggest going with a single higher end chip and adding a second only if he finds the performance lacking.

sorry i've been ignoring all of your posts... I just haven't got around to replying to them. rolleyes.gif

its not that i'm going to edit a 4k video.. I am making 4k video effects. like 2-10 mins of really hardware demanding visual effects. I just don't feel like waiting a day and a half for it to finish rendering (hence the emphasis on the RAM.)

I will take your advice on the CPUs and I think the 3930k will be best for some of my scenarios. thumb.gif

I'm Happy you decided on the 900D much more worth the money smile.gif . and you could do a mix of swiftech parts and stuff from frozencpu.com they have tons of stuff... Xeons also sound good much better at video rendering than the 3930K ...

Op please listen to me on this and listen to me well. What parts you need to buy will solely depend on what you want to do with this machine, Xenon's will be the best for professional work things like rendering videos at higher resolutions, the i7 will be more for a gaming computer. Same with the Graphics cards, (even though you already decided on the titan). The geforce cards are meant for gaming, and tesla / quadro cards are made for professional rendering.

I Have listened and taken notes on what you have said. Thank you.

I Will go for the 3930k and the titan because I want to keep the price under $3000... the 3930k overclocked to some like 5Ghz will do me well.thumb.gif
