Evga Sr X Dual Xeons with 4 7970s.
Okay, well at this price you dont need to worry at all about maxing games.

Please do a build log whenever you get the parts list ironed out, it would be fun to watch biggrin.gif

I feel like dual xeon cpus would be more than viable at this buget also.

Hey, i got up to $6000 to spend on a REALLY powerful computer. I'm going to be using almost all of the adobe cs6 programs and want to be able to play any game at the highest setting... I don't really care about watercooling mainly because I don't feel like putting it together and can't see dramatic increase... I mean come on, its not like I'm putting a blow torch to it.

I NEED POWER... lets just say I'm going to be rendering projects like the movie transformers where it took them a month to render one frame... OK maybe not that big... but you get the point.

What builds would you recommend?

(Now I'm really going to bed

I assume you will overclock? The 3930k is a good investment if you plan on overclocking it - which you will need to do if you truly want the powerful beast hence why a lot of us recommended watercooling. You can achieve a high overclock on air but its such a waste to not go water cooling and hit 5 on that processor.

Quad 680s is fine but truly overkill unless you're gaming on 1440p x 3 monitors.

Also that post earlier recommending a 850 watt PSU for your first build is pure rubbish but your 1600 is a bit too high. Hit 1200 and you should be fine.

My suggestion in all honesty...split the money.

Build a gaming rig.

Build a rendering rig.

First of all I would say don't buy asock x79 extreme11 if you you are planning to buy 4gpu.
Even if the 4gpu will run at 16x you face lower performence than 4gpu at 16,8,8,8x configuration due to increased latency.
Moreover don't buy it for its onboard audio, you can have a much better dedicated audio solution. In terms of overclocking asus rampage 4 extreme is a much better board and costs less.
Get this setup:
i7 3930k
asus rampage 4 extreme
4x8gb corsair dominator platinum 2400mhz / trident-x 2400mhz
3x geforce gtx titan (definitely go with this card,it will be released on 18th february, these will be beast) /4x water cooled HD7970GHZ edition.
corsair ax1200i (the best psu out there in the market in terms of performence)
when you are spending $6k definitely get custom water cooling solution
3x 27" ips panel monitor
coolermaster cosmosII / corsair 900D / corsair 800D
corsair vengeance k90
cyborg rat9 / corsair m90
asus xonar phoebus sound card
480gb ocz vertex4
2tb wd cavair black
The reason I haven't suggested dual xeon setup is because it will be a complete waste for your purpose, better spend more on the whole rig.
Get this setu,it will be a much better solution.
Hope you like this.

Asus rampage 4 extreme is a much better mobo than asrock x79 extreme11 and I wish he finds rampage 4 extreme and if its out of stock then he should get rampage 4 formula and rather than spending on dual xeon which will be useless for his purpose he should spend on the whole rig.

if you are serious with this thread...

two words; render farm.
if you're going to be rendering animated films or anything that would take "so long" to render and have such a budget at your disposal, it's the most logical path with the most performance.

for gaming; 4x 680s sounds good on paper, but scaling isn't the best and gains quickly become minimal...you'd be much better off just getting two cards and upgrading when they no longer perform to your standards.

if i were you, and had that budget...i'd get a main work/gaming pc and build a farm with the rest of the money.
something along the lines of;

Intel Core i7-3930k
16GB/32GB RAM
HD7970 or two if you want to play games at "max settings"/ wait a little bit and see what else comes out/ workstation card + gaming card
whatever SSD/HDD config you think works best for your needs

and as many;
Intel Core i5/i7
8GB RAM
as you can afford.

buying the most expensive components in every category does not mean they will last longer than something less costly or net you more noticeable performance.

if you genuinely want MY help; elaborate on what exactly your doing, the programs you're using, your experience with them, and post a picture of either your current setup or some of your work so others can feel more comfortable contributing to this thread.

have a good night thumb.gif

EDIT: love how everyone basically starts posting up their own "6k dream build"...and nowhere has op mentioned that he is gaming on 3 screens.
