Kinda where I was going with this one. I don't think OP realizes how much money he is wasting in general.

To be fair, he if REALLY wanted a render farm a he should throw down on a 10 core / 20 thread Xeon and forget about the GPUs period.

for the gaming machine why not 2x 7990's with wc'ing. the 7990's preform with 2x the fps from a 7920 and at the same temps. plus you could wc them and put two of them in quad crossfire. both 7990's would have 6gb of ram. then on your rendering rig throw a tesla or quadro in there.

Just saying you don't need more than two 7970s to play pretty much everything on ultra.

You just made a copy of the rig I've suggested except few exceptions.
There is no point of getting i7 3960x/3970x when i7 3930k costs half and overclocks same as the extreme edition chips,no need to waste $500 for the extreme edition tag.

The Xeons in this build are essentially slightly slower 3930k's, only you get 2 of them, and you can't have 2 3930k's.
The Hard Drives are Sata 2 because the SR-X only has 2 Sata 3 ports, and those are for the ssds.
The Case choice is because it can support such a large motherboard, also a large amount of fans and hard drives.
I choose CPU watercoolers to make sure there's no problems with air coolers on a dual cpu board.

The 680s can be replaced by 2 Titans, depending on how they're priced at launch.
Also, the Ivy Bridge Xeons should come out around July, which will be 10% faster compared to Sandy Bridge Xeons with the same clock. They'll also use a new socket.

Also people suggesting AMD and other stuff seem to forget this will be an adobe workstation, and not just games. Nvidia is better in Adobe programs.
No point of getting dual xeons when he'll hardly use half of its power. Its a waste of money, better to spend on the whole rig.

why the 3960X? the 3930k would fit nicely..
or you can go for a gaming rig + render rig combo..

Sufficient, sure, but this whole thing is overkill that's kind of the point, going beyond sufficient.

For 4k+ more RAM will help.
To an extent....
but 64gb is complete madness better to get 32gb 2400mhz ram. Geil evo corsa you have suggested isn't that great, better to get gskill trident-x or corsair dominator platinum. 32gb is also way overkill.
