No official surface pro thread?

]Are there not enough surface pro users here? I recently just sold my Ipad 3 (sick of apple and its limitations) and bought a lenovo thinkpad tablet 2. It was a nice tablet yet it still had its shortcomings and the digitizer was off too much and the performance was too slow to warrant its 600+ price tag. I also couldn't live with the fact that for a few hundred more I could have a better machine (heh). So I sold it on ebay for what I paid for it and bought the surface pro. I honestly liked the feel of the Lenovo more (the rubber backing of it feels amazing and it is super light) but the surface pro is a much better machine. The battery life has not hindered me yet however I bought the 64gb verion and think I should take it back and buy the 128gb when it is back in stock. I know I can buy a 64gb microsd card but it will be much slower than the ssd right?
I feel like the lenovo thinkpad tablet 2 is way over priced as well as the surface pro. I think the tablet 2 should be the same as an ipad and the surface pro 64gb should be around the 600-700 dollar mark. But you gotta pay what you gotta pay I guess. Anyways so who else bought the surface pro and is happy with it? Pics? Not seeing much love on here...

I had a lot of interest in the Surface Pro, but ended up getting myself a new laptop. It's just difference of use-cases. I didn't expect myself to be sitting on the couch or in bed, toying with it. I probably had lofty expectations about using it as a gaming computer for mid-age games like Team Fortress 2 and Left 4 Dead (though I would really like to see that in action!)

Things to remember with the price:
1) This is a hybrid machine, with the power of a much bigger computer. There are plenty of full-sized laptops with Atom processors far less powerful than this thing's i5 processor.
2) The market is not so big for these types of devices just yet. The ones that do exist often haven't quite nailed the design, the way the "folding laptop" concept caught on with 90% of computers.
3) Every touchscreen PC is expensive.

So it's a bit over-assumptuous to expect the price to be down around the $600 range.

Yeah sometimes an actual laptop would make more sense however there are the times that i do like to use it in bed as just a tablet and not have to have the keyboard attached. I like the design of the keyboard docks asus uses for the transformer more. Much more like a real laptop and way easier to use on your lap. Obviously the keyboards for the Surface are much more sleek, and sitting it on your lap is "doable" it just isn't perfect.

Only cons so far I have with it are the battery life like everyone (although any laptop I see in this price range has the same if not worse battery life) and that it is a little thick, heavy, and hot. I know it will be fixed in the surface pro 2 but if you always wait till the next version you will never buy anything.
So far the permanence boost between this and the thinkpad tablet 2 is worth the price and actually being able to play some newer games on it is awesome.

Anyone have any suggestions to increase battery life?

I sold my Lenovo X220T - fully loaded with 8GB RAM, dual SSDs, and of course it had a touchscreen and stylus/digitizer support...and also sold my iPad 2 for my 128GB Surface Pro!

I honestly would never go back to a laptop + iPad combo - the Surface Pro does everything both of those devices did, and fits my work needs perfectly as well. I had a Reservation Pass given to me on January 28, and was the 3rd person at the Microsoft Store in San Jose/Santa Clara to get my hands on a Pro on launch morning.

it has its shortcomings as a first-iteration device, and i am sure the Surface Pro 2, when it comes out with Haswell + newer tech, will be even better, and i'd probably sell my 128GB SP1 to grab an SP2...

Also, i know a few people personally who have a Surface Pro 64GB, but the 128GB is really hard to get a hold of still - even Microsoft Store online has a backlog of orders and are only taking orders to ship by 3/1 until stock runs out....i'd also start up a Surface Pro club, but managing the GTX 690 Owner's Club can get hard enough as it is, lol.

Anyways, grats on the Pro...i'm absolutely loving mine. thumb.gif

I got an Acer w700 instead, but the specs are pretty similar. I would have considered the surface pro if it came out sooner... but with similar specs and price point, I didn't see any point in waiting the few months.
