i am currently looking to replace my old amd athlon II that i used as a HTPC because it got fried in the last winter storm ( ya tons of fun)

so i was thinking since i and getting all new stuff except for the HDD i might want to get into some light gaming too ( Skyrim-- and Diablo 3)

so i put this parts together and wondering what you guys and girls think and if there is anything better out there that will get the job done within a 600- 700 budget and the case must be able to hold atleast 5 x 3.5 hdd because i have 3 x 2 tb drives and will probly expanded to more drives in the future sorry for the newbie questions but any help would be great

I think both of those builds would run those games fine, as long as the settings aren't too high for the gtx 650 ti. Here's a link for the two from anandtech, the 7870 pretty much wins out on everything except power consumption. But the Intel chip draws quite a bit less power at tdp than the AMD processor would so it's your call on what's more important. Gaming or power bill? Either of those cards would play video without any problem as far as I'm concerned for htpc usage, especially since AMD's newer APU's and Intel's hd 4000 graphics can do that without the help of video cards. I'm also assuming you'll just use recycled parts from before i.e. keyboard/mouse/remote/OS so you don't need a build with those in mind. The Intel build would be the more powerful choice but really it's what you'll use it most for that should win out. AMD's got a new APU coming in less than a month that might be worth checking out that could give you the best of both worlds without an extra graphics card and power draw. A10-6800k is the top dog. Good luck with your purchase and build thumb.gif

Edit: Richland APU's are scheduled for March 19th I believe, so a little more than a month out. Sorry about that
