7970 x 2 or a gtx 690 - Page 2

I can tell you that I found that AMD GPU's perform better than Nvidia GPU's on an AMD setup due to the AMD GPU's are not limited by the CPU. Nvidia seem to need the breathing room that Intel can provide. I ran two HD7970's on a Gigabyte UD7 990FX board and they were monsters.

AMD GPUs still perform better with Intel. Regardless, 2 7970s are faster than a GTX 690.

I dont blame you im pretty sure the company went under a few years ago i was just trying to avoid buy a new one were should i start looking for a new one ? who should i go with ?

I would start with this PSU calculator for your particular components and overclock levels you wish to use:

http://www.overclock.net/t/1140534/psu-calc-final-release

And then there are lots of good power supplies you could use--pending on sale prices and such. Here's a reference list of recommended PSUs for each wattage range:

2 x 7970 would not only be cheaper but faster thumb.gif

Even 2 x 7950 would compete quite well with a 690

Corsair TX750 would be a good choice, or maybe a corsair HX850 if you can afford one. You probably don't need that much power but it's better if you want to overclock to the max on both the CPU and the GPU's.

1.- YES, a couple 7970 will be noticeable faster than a 690.. WITH voltage control.. WITH waterblock available.. etc thumb.gif

2.- yes a 8350 with a high OC can drive those 2 cards.. but keep in mind 7970 crossfire its a CRAP LOAD OF GPU POWER.. go AT LEAST eyefinity in order to give those card some work.. dont bother with 1080P

i got 1 yesterday and even running a 1080p 120HZ monitor that thing have power to spare.. and dont believe in "oh but cant max "x" game at ultra blah blah" crap.. i turned up and down all the settings a ton of games and some are not giving you any visual details "improvements" at all.. just a drop, in performance and im a person that can notice 75+fps and up and down easily NOT RUNNING FRAPS

keep in mind the resolution thing and OC the crap of your CPU.. and enjoy your rig, plain and simple, thats what is all about in the end thumb.gif
