2)Everyone is free to spend their money as they wish but basing your beliefs on old benchmarks about cards that aren't even sold anymore is a bit silly.

1) I didn't mention anything about better or faster than the competition or anything else.

2) I didn't mention anything about benchmarks.

I said in my experience its been smoother with 3-4 GPUs, i didn't say nothing about brands or benches, so you can drop it right there because your making a big fuss over nothing and adding assumptions of things that i did not say to make something of it.

You asked me why I wanted 3-4 GPUs and i told you why based on my experience, others experience is irrelevant because it makes no difference to mine in this context.

Yes, but that source also said to expect cut down versions of GK110 in May. I think he was talking about GK114 since I don't think nVidia will do that.

@2010rig

agreed. That's why this period of no releases is very bad for consumers. I mean GF100 was really limited because of low yields. I don't think they ever had lower yields (1.7%). Still they released it for $499 because of AMD 5870. This $900 Titan is just a result of no competition (and it's not that AMD can't compete). If nVidia really needed a full blown GK110 around they would have priced it lower as well as the "GTX 670Ti". Now they just market their mid range chip as a top dog and their real high end chip as a premium product (it's even castrated for that matter). Well, everyone seems to buy their marketing scheme (can't really blame them since it's the only thing available). But this is bad folks. If GK114 doesn't release in H1 '13, the fiasco is complete...

and before I get attacked by the who needs x performance anyways crew. It's not about short term, this pricing situation will probably take until 2015-2016 to stabilize (if it even does) since the marketing peeps over at AMD and nVidia just look at each other and the current market. I basically saw this coming when 7970 released for $549. Imagine a $900 GTX 480 back in 2010...

Why pretty sad? it's not like nVIDIA is going to do differently, or that their (AMD) cards don't perform up to par.

Sometimes the way of thinking of this community bedazzles me.

Would you rather AMD shift resources towards a 'meh' refresh of the 7xxx series, releasing something in March/April that in the best of the cases is 10% faster than the 7970GHz, and push forward the release of a new architecture to Q2 2014?

I would not.

I don't recall ATi/AMD ever offering 500mm^2 or larger behemoth cards-79x0 is comparable to 69x0 in die size. It wasn't competing before, it isn't competing now. Greens are pricing their products like that because they have a large dedicated customer base willing to pay-exact specs or performance appear to not matter all that much. They do it because they can.
I was wondering how long it would take AMD to screw up the good thing that ATi had going...

I can see AMD's GPUs going the way of AMD's CPUs before the 10th year anniversary of AMD aquiring ATi, sad really.

For me it has been, so there is nothing weird about it, i don't know how you can take it generally when even my first comment was about me personally and as if like in general people willingly spend upto £2000 on GPUs, the context was there from the get go, i then reinforced that it's been better for me from my experience and yet again you continue about an old benchmark again and i was doing 3-4 GPUs before smoothness benches, so no im not influenced by them at all, how things run on my rig is all that matters.
So even if i worded it better "3 has been smoother for me than 2." it was of made no difference because i said basically that in my next comment but you still went on about because of benchmarks when you were told that benchmarks had nothing to do with it.

You clearly read what you want and make up assumptions to fit what you want, so i will leave you to it.

Triple GPU or more adds latency. The experience is indeed more steady FPS but overall more latency. You can notice this in FPS games.

Wow, pretty sad. Considering I've had 7970's since Jan 2012 that could clock way higher than a "GHz" edition (which means nothing by the way, just a higher factory clock of the same chip), essentially means AMD's top of the line card stays at the same performance for nearly two years.

Assuming they keep dropping prices, short of paying exorbitant amounts for large screens or 120Hz Eyefinity, etc, what issues would you have maxing out every game ever on HD7970Ghz CFX? There's not much point in a new GPU if you already run a HD7870 or faster until the end of the year anyway, you can probably max everything out unless you run a large screen.

I totally agree with you. I'm using 4X 7970 and the experience is totally smooth for me also. No stuttering/freezing/BSOD, and the latest drivers are working fine with the 200 games I have in my Steam account.

But you wont convince Nvidia's lovers (sorry Alatar biggrin.gif) of the opposite. Nvidia owners can't beleive that we have a good experience with 3 or 4 AMD cards. It's impossible for them to comprehend that, because, because, AMD drivers are soooo buggy! It's impossible for AMD owners (in their mind) to have a rock-stable/fast/problem free Tri-Fire or Quad-Fire set-up. Doesn't compute.

And btw, I've tried 4X 680 and it was a mess... And I'm going 4X Titan soon. AMD vs Nvidia? I don't care. I just want MORE POWAR to drive my 7680X1600 set-up.
