[HardwareCanucks]AMD Clarifies 2013 Graphics Strategy: New Cards, Same Architecture, Some Surprises - Page 3

I have a feeling the markup is going to be insane for Titan (and I would need two for it to make sense). I think I'm going to go with two or three 680 Lightnings instead...

AMD goes out and say a new architecture will be out in late 2013. I`m not sure how the production of 20nm wafers is doing right now, but I have a feeling that production is going pretty slow since 28nm have just lately hit good production/yields (I could be wrong here). 20nm will most certainly be worse than 28nm considering yields. So either this means AMD is gunning for the new architecture on the same nm as GCN, or the production of the new architecture on 20nm will be slow (at first). There might be another option there though, that this architecture really isn`t out until the production is ready: Early 2014.

Going to be interesting to see how it will pan out

Maxwell will be the last of Fermi arch on 20nm, initially it was slated for 2013 but now it's probably going to be 2014. GK114 is Kepler midlife kicker, when will that one drop? I believe Sea Islands will be 28nm though, especially since they are talking bout stacking the GPU in your article while making as least as possible compromises.

Last I heard NV wasn't going to release 7XX until Q4. Read that here somewhere. AMD certainly seems to think NV won't release anytime soon...

Do you have a source on that? Mine is from Nov 2012 so I'm sure I missed something. Maxwell will probably also drop in 2014 though...

It really depends on what the holdup for the 28nm process was(I don't think TSMC ever released the cause). If the same production process is going to be used for the lithography shrink, much like the CPU gating issues with filtering, than we can see the massive initial startup development time (28nm) and then the following couple of die shrinks using that process with little modification (20nm, 14nm).

You can't assume just because one die shrink had a production issue, the next ones will as well.

Real talk: let's face the facts: hardly anyone is going to buy Titan because only 10,000 are being made worldwide and the cost is ridiculous. Yes, I want one - but i'm also not the typical customer either. Far from it. People like me make up .00001% of customers.

Current GPUs are fine until the true 700 / HD8000 series are released in Q4. Games aren't really demanding enough at this point and time, and 200$ is still the sweet spot for most users.

GK114 aka GTX 780 isn`t a new architecture but a generation jump yes. Its the same as Kepler.
AMD now says there won`t be any new generation for their top end cards, only 7700 and 7800 cards. They are jumping right from GCN to a new architecture, skipping the middle step.

Its pretty much what keeps the consumer electronic market thriving. In Tv's for instance, every year a new model of the same line comes out. Its at the same price as its predecessor but is better. In return last years model goes into discounted inventory and allows people who maybe couldn't afford a 3500 dollar tv get last years top model which is still a great tv for around 2k. There is nothing negative about things moving forward and getting better. No one is saying Amd should have to change their entire architecture every year but should they be giving you the consumer a better/faster product every year? Your damn right they should.

TPU still has the 780 listed under april, and the 8970 listed as late october IIRC.

Semantics. I'm referring only to the true GTX 700 series which will be the updated Kepler.
