Dual 22-24's or single 27 inch monitor?

My budget is 350-400. I've been looking at either a 27 inch monitor or dual 22-24's. I am getting into gaming so i need a good screen for games but i will be going to school for computer programming in the fall and everyone i've talked to said it's great to have a dual setup for that. Hence the reason i'm thinking about a dual setup. What do you guys recommend.

I prefer 2 monitors over a large monitor. I don't play games. Program and multitask. I would have a hard time going back to a single monitor. I would prefer 3 monitors lol

Hmmm... idk then. I mean i wanna have the functionality of dual monitors but those 1440p 27 inch Korean monitors looks beautiful... Man. Plus i don't have the desk space for dual 27's either.

I haven't written code in years, but a monitor than can rotate into portrait mode would be one of the first priorities on my list. I can only image how easy it would be now to edit code on my 27" Ultrasharp, than a landscape 22-24".

Real estate wise (non gaming) 2 monitors vs 1 1440p will give you about the same working space.

I don't recommend a 27" 1080p since you'll lose screen real estate unless you go dual monitors.

Haven't coded anything for years but preferred dual monitors when I did. It was easier to organize your work. I would look into pivot stands.

Good luck and have fun!

The Overlords are basically Korean monitors sold via a US retailer. If they were ever in stock I would get one from them.

2nd monitor is a 1080p. The Korean monitors are 1440p.

2 1080p monitors give about 4 mil pixels. 1 1440p is about 3.7 mil pixels. 1 1080p (no matter the size) will give about 2 mil pixels.

Are you planning to get more monitors or upgrade when you do start coding? If not, I would plan ahead now.

Also note a 1440p will be harder to push graphically. My 680 struggled a bit on a few titles at 1440p at max settings. I'm assuming next gen titles will be worse.

Whether you are Comp Eng or Comp Sci you will have coding classes in your first year, most likely pseudo code/Basic in the Fall and Java or C in the Spring. The programming classes are major specific courses you take with your basic general ed lower division classes (Calc, Phys, Eng, etc). Just an FYI.

Also, if you plan on living on campus @ your school, you may not have room for a dual monitor setup anyway.

This is a rebrand of one Korean LCD sold by Monoprice with a real US based warranty (Will be in stock in a month):

Just a couple things to think about.
