GTX470 overclocking caused a leak?

Thread Starter
I have a GTX470 (ASUS ENGTX470/2DI/1280MD5/V2 to be exact).

It blue screened on me some time ago and I had it RMA'd. It worked fine for about 3 months before it blue screened on me again.

They emailed me saying that there is water damage (which I know did not come from me). So I called them and they said "the GPU had a leak and the only way for it to have gotten it was if it was overclocked" (the rep was reading the tech report and couldn't explain it to me).

First off, I haven't overclocked my GPU at all (though I had overclocked my CPU a small amount, nothing serious).

Secondly, I've tried to find additional information on this kind of damage, but even google has failed me. Can someone explain how the only way for a GPU to leak is if its overclocked?

Thanks!

Don't GPU's have "Vapour Cooling"? That might have caused condensation to melt into a liquid? Just clutching at straws here. Don't stop until they replace the card. You are well in your rights here. Take legal action if needed.

If you ran it stock out of the box and it is still under warranty then dont stop until they send you a new one or refund it to buy a newer card.

What possible legal action could I take?

I really only thought a submission to the BBB (which really does nothing) was my only option.

Good luck. I have had terrible experiences with Asus in terms of RMA and replacement. Hence why I never recommend Asus anything anymore and used to be a huge fan of them. They have gone downhill for the last 5 or 6 years. Used to be a top notch outfit.
