Man so many Nintendo is doomed articles lately, I'll believe it when I see it which I personally don't think will happen for a long time.

Calling the Gamecube a success is a real stretch unless you completely disregard market share and overall sales. Aside from being Nintendo's worst selling home console by a pretty wide margin, the newcomer Xbox managed to perform better overall and much better in western markets, and the Playstation 2 that same generation outsold the Gamecube several times over. Until the Vita, there was nothing from either Sony or Microsoft that managed to be as unpopular as the Gamecube.

Could the Wii U be Nintendo's Dreamcast?
Next Dreamcast? Not gonna happen. Nintendo has some big games coming out this year. Come this E3 we will find out how 3rd party will be for the system. Even if it's bad Nintendo can live with just there games just like they did with the N64 and Gamecube.

N64 had some of the highest quality games for its gen.
The Rare games alone proved that the N64 had great games. Lack of CD drive drove out games like FF. Probably some of the worst design choices were made for the N64, yet It had some of the best games know to man.

Same thing continued for the GameCube, Small DVD's made porting games that took up more space on the ps2/xbox and made it impossible. No Internet options, system while powerful in specs lacked in modern features.

The Wii U still has a out dated internet system, OS is slow. Tablet controller doesn't do as much as it should. Could easily be another Gamecube, but don't forget that it really has no games yet.

3ds on the other hand even despite poor early sales is a great selling system now. I got my 3DS when it first came out so I have all those virtual titles what is nice. System has great games, 3D on a handheld is pretty fun. better then the vita

There is on reason and one reason only why the WiiU sales have been sluggish and they have nothing to do with specs or content ownership. There are not many compelling games for the system and no games I would classify as "must haves".

Once the WiiU gets the games, especially the Nintendo franchises, its sales will pickup. It also has a hurdle to overcome in that not many gamers really grok the benefits of asynchronous game play and the unique experiences that can bring. That is something table top players have known for a long time now.

The WiiU will pick up steam and ten years from now I don't think anyone will be calling it a failed console.

It's like judging the Super Nintendo if the only game for it was Super Mario World. Everybody's got all their NES'es and Mario Bros 3 and all the fun stuff from that console, why switch?

Give it time, we'll see the Wii U blossom. The main Nintendo franchises haven't piped up yet, Nintendo hasn't gotten innovative with it yet aside from Nintendo Land and the game selection from third parties is limited. I seriously believe once they get all the good games everyone's saying they're gonna make for it, this console is gonna prove itself worthy to kick off the latest generation. And if you don't believe that, come back when Smash Bros 4 hits shelves.

Fanciness doesn't make a console. Games make a console. You don't play Nintendo to play Nintendo, you play to save Peach and Zelda and beat Ridley's behind and save Corneria and Dreamland and battle Pokemon and stuff.

For those stating the hardware/specs are what causes the low sales, you just don't get it, do you? rolleyes.gif Can't wait to see the dissapointed faces when people realize even 720/ps4 are not going to be the jump from xbox to 360 was, let alone something like n64 to gamecube kind of jump. Developers can't afford it people. thumb.gif

People said the samething about the 3ds.... and now look at it. Price was lowered, games were released and now it sells like hotcakes, especially in Japan wink.gif

The Wii U doesn't have the games right now, bottom line. Once the gang rolls up (zelda, mario, metroid, super smash bros, mario kart, etc) it will do very well I predict.

Besides, oddly enough I rather enjoy browsing the web on the tablet controller, for some reason it just feels natural compared to a standard tablet.

The wii U matches the current specs of current generation consoles not future generation. It is most definite that microsoft and sony will launch a pretty beefy system because there is both a demand from publishers, developers & the end user. The wii u however, will suffer, if they don't lower down their price. People also want fresh IPs and while rehashing and relying on successful titles may have worked in the past but it's risky. I guess all we can say is,time will tell..

And in 4 days...the PS4 will be announced...and its gonna kill the WiiU...

Nintendo need some big games asap
