For good PSU's check here:
http://www.overclock.net/t/183810/faq-recommended-power-supplies

For a good PSU calculator go here:
http://www.overclock.net/t/1140534/psu-calc-final-release

To overclock you CPU and GPU to there highest go for a 650W PSU.
If your going for moderate clocks a 600W PSU will do.

Thanks a lot Farih! More so, since it seems I’ll really need to browse for another PSU! Installed the 650W OCZ, did a couple of restarts, didn't run into a problem yet! Hopefully the PSU was indeed the source of the problem (replacing MOBO would require me to do a full reinstall, and I don't have time for that! I mean Windows is easy, all the software I use, and re-activating everything, that would take a while (key component change would force that I guess, so backups would be useless...). I'll let You all know if the problem comes back over the weekend. Maybe this will be able to help others with similar problems. I'll do some more snooping around the machine to make sure it's stable, then back to work! I'm already behind schedule...

Both of those are quality power supplies. The ModXStream might be a bit old, I've heard the quality is it's the solid units you'd get for lower end budgets but the new ZS series and what not are a really strong line from OCZ, they used to be known when I bought my StealthXStream II as fickle.

But now their reputation because of the new lines (ZS, ZT) should be improving greatly relative to what it was years ago.

Status Update:

The weirdest thing happened yesterday. It seemed that the PSU was indeed the source, as the new one was working fine. I've decided to test it - re-attach the old PSU and check if it works correctly or again has problems with booting. I expected it to just simply fail at boot at some point, so that i can get it replaced. What suprised me was that it didn't fail -.-

I've definately re-attached all the equipment (except for one single 120mm fan from the bottom of the case. I've removed it since it was where i decided to put all the excessive wires (didn't wrap them, since i've assumed i'd replace the unit anyway, but they have to go somewhere.

Did around 20 reboots - no issue so far. I'm sure there were no issues with plugs or wires before. I've checked everything after putting the new GPU and CPU in, and all seemed fine. Sides, everything worked fine with old CPU/GPU. I will try to attach that single fan today when i get back from work... Maybe the literal 1W from the fan put the unit over the edge? Doubt that, but if not, then i have no idea about the reason...

Or do i... This is a modular PSU (the 500W). I've read about the Dual Rail in the sticky. I usually connect two SATA wires and two PCI-E's to the PSU. I have 4 sockets for disks in the PSU. It is likely that i've used different sockets this time for the SATA's. Maybe that's the cause of instability? Both of the SATA's connected to the same rail? Not sure about that, it's either this or the FAN theory imho.

Will keep You posted. I hate troubleshooting PSU's. It should be either fry or work correctly, no middle ground -.-
