GTX 560M Help Needed - Very choppy graphics!

Thread Starter
It has been about a year and a half since I got my Asus Laptop G74SX that comes equipped with an i7 processor and GTX 560M. Everything has worked fine for games up until last night when all of a sudden my graphics became extremely choppy. I'm not sure if the issue is with the video card because it runs movies in 1080p just fine without any stuttering, but when I'm trying to run games, even old ones - I get very low framerate, choppy graphics and severe stuttering.

Can anyone tell me what the issue is, or where do you think I should begin troubleshooting? I have not changed any settings or anything. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Does it apply to all the games? Is it choppy immediately when you start the game or does it progressively get worse?
Have you installed any new programs recently?
Also, what are your temps like? During gaming?

First thing to do would be to do a clean driver re-install.

Yes I've tried it with many different games, even older ones. It used to work well up until yesterday, I haven't made any changes either. Also my drivers are up to date, I haven't updated drivers within the past week or so either, so I don't think its due to drivers. Thanks for the response!

Since it seems to be a sudden issue, something must've changed. Unknown changes mainly attribute to windows updates, virus attacks, high temperatures.

Primary Troubleshooting list"
1) Run a malware/virus scan. This is known to cause choppiness.
2) Check windows updates.
4) Perform a clean reinstall of drivers. (310.90).
5) Does lowering the settings make a difference?

Also, tell me the temperatures. idle and gaming. Also please put in the "GPU usage" during gaming

PS: Playing high def videos also uses your GPU.

Could you quote the frequency's of the GPU + CPU.
I know someone with a G73 which was seriously overheating.

I'm not sure what quoting the frequency means, can you be more specific? Thanks for all the help.

Also another thing I noticed is it takes a lot longer for me to even load the games compared to before, maybe this bit of information may help.
