that's not true at all... people still continue to need it just look at Apple stores for an example.

People be real. You can't expect top notch people at a retail store. Nobody says "I want to work at Best Buy when I grow up". rolleyes.gif At the end of the day they're still salespeople that need minimal qualifications to get the job. If they are knowledgeable enough about general things like where to find products, in a particular aisle I'd be grateful already.

The only reason why the apple people are seem to be more knowledgeable because Apple is secretly a cult and Apple fanatics read Apple specifications and marketing garbage like a religious text ("Cinema HD", "Retina" , "Thunderbolt", etc). Also Apple standardizes everything they make. It's not like a 27" Cinema Display is going to be different than any other one. Apple has more people that apply to work there (due to benefits and not just the culture), so you have a bigger pool of qualified people to start with. People that buy into the Apple culture are more likely to be making use of employee discounts also.
Quote:
And lastly, the competition for jobs is intense! Sr. v-p Retail Ron Johnson has said it's tougher to be hired than being accepted by Stanford University--literally. During one talk he said Apple hired 978 store employees during 2002 from an applicant pool of 16,438, or less than a 6% chance of being hired (Stanford accepted 12.6 % for 2005). Put another way, only 1 in 17 applicants is hired. Once they accept they job, the employee stay, Johnson also noted.

Meanwhile everything as far as Android tablets, Desktops/laptops/ultrabooks from any manufacturer have a plethora of different specifications with odd numbers and letters at the end like "660 Ti" or "2013H".

EDIT: Oh and it's not like Apple is a good employer: http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/06/13/us-apple-idUSTRE75B1FL20110613

Employees said that Apple keeps its healthcare costs down by defining even employees working 40 hours a week as part-time if they can’t guarantee open availability (availability to be scheduled to work anytime the store is open).
http://www.inthesetimes.com/working/entry/11557/apple_store_workers_share_why_they_want_to_work_different/

When a company makes $420k in profit per employee compared to $130k from Intel employees... they ought to give employees more benefits... but wait, there's a whole line of people waiting to take your $14 hour Apple store job so no dice.

That's not true. I can name at least a dozen retail stores that provide excellent customer service. I think you just need to accept the fact that Best Buy is garbage and defending them with excuses like "the other store is great because their employees are part of a cult following".

And what does this have to do with Apple and why are you bashing them? Like I said I can name at least a dozen stores that provide excellent customer service. That is if you visit other stores other than "electronic" based stores. rolleyes.gif

If you're like me and live in Wisconsin it no longers matters if I buy online and don't have to pay taxes. All the stuff I purchased online without paying taxes I have to claim on my tax returns. I'd much rather pay it when I buy the item then later.

I remember going in to price match a G500 and was refused as the price was too low for them to price match. What's the point of a price match if you refuse it due to the other stores price being too low?

Ok yeah, you all realize that FRYS if you have one in your location has a way better selection than BestBuy does.

Best Buy said it themselves .... they are downsizing to focus on Cell Phones, TVs, Tablets and Laptops.... and the selection they have is very small and biased at best.

Still useless, because they're never going to come close to matching Amazon's Prime shipping speeds, or the selection of available merchandise.

Only thing Best Buy is good for is a place to go to troll the Geek Squad. wink.gif

My opinion, but hey... It's how I operate!

Thanks - thumb.gif

EDIT:
I WILL capitulate on the "big box" items idea, like huge TVs, hard-to-set-up sound systems, etc, but for the majority of what my local BB carries, it's far to easy to out-shop them.

When it comes to big ticket items, I will shop there indefinitely. You can't ask for better service than that.

Now that there's the Amazon price matching, they will get the majority of my business.

Yeah.. for big ticket items ... or items that would be too heavy to ship for low cost, then Best Buy is gonna be competitive now. They'll still have to compete with my local Fry's in that department, however Best Buy is closer than they are .... so for stuff like that, they now have a shot at getting my business whereas before I just ignored them and went directly to Fry's.

As far as computer stuff... I honestly don't like BB's lower selection level as compared to online warehouses. Even Fry's doesn't compete on that level... so there will still be a place for Amazon and Newegg in my heart...

Either way, competition is good... for the consumer. We'll just see how long it lasts though.

Even tho it may make them less money, they will make it up by attracting more customers. Personlly, I hate waiting for stuff to get to me after ordering online. Too bad BB employees will remain the same intelligence. biggrin.gif
